howdy everyone!

New here just wanted to introuduce myself and ask for a little bit of advice?

(small confession not exactly new just never plucked up the courage to post before always been an observiour and thought it was about time to say hello)

as bloomin petrol is now costing me most of my wages and just getting to see my boy :( i am trying to come up with inventive ways of cutting costs but without cutting any thing i already use or my lads needs basicly just finding cheaper or home made alternatives does anyone have anything they use around the yard or feed that they have cut costs on or made at home?

especially wondered if anyone had a cheaper alternative to coat shine as my lad tends to look a bit dull this time of year with out it but it costing a fortune lol

thanks everyone hope your all having an awsome evening and if anyone is watching master chef its brillaint lots of great ideas (haha as if i could ever cook tht) xxxxx

Micronised ground linseed, I have ben able to cut down the No 4 cubes by feed my mare 250grams per day of this and its much cheaper than Outshine. A sack last for just over 5 months for one horse. cost is about £32 from Charnwood Milling. Its the postage which puts the price up but still much cheaper than anything else. My mare looks great on it.

that sounds brilliant from feeding point of view think i will be trying that in may!

but from a grooming point of view sorry it didnt make that very clear lol wht i ment was the grooming coat shine spray my lad is a lovely grey
and his coat just never looks as good with out using the spray shine was wondering if anyone has a cheaper alternative?

as im using this 3 times a week its costing a fortune lol xx

Hi LL, I have been putting a good slug of vegetable oil (rapeseed oil) in the feeds and it has given their coat the most amazing shine. It's about £1 per litre. I am also adding a squirt of squeezy Marmite as a midge repellent, all cheap and cheerful:)

thanks :) veg oil i already use works wonders for my little nf but the grey it just doesnt seem to brighten the coat as much.

but marmite wht a good idea never though of that one just garlic at the mo but i shall be using marmite from now i think i wonder if good old yeast extract would work the same as in the own brand stuff is the same thing?

Hi

One thing i do most days after grooming usually before exercise is run a hot cloth all over her body and head. All you need is some fairly hot water and a little washing up liquid in a bucket and i use a human face flannel to wipe over her body and it just removes left over grease and dust from the surface and leaves a really nice shine!! Worth a try!!!
Also i use furniture polish in her tail and it works just as good as any mane and tail conditioner and a helluva lot cheaper, got morrisons own for 61p!! lol :)

Hope that helps! :D
