I drive a 12 tonne (HGV) horsebox. I have 2 small daughters who compete in local shows. I occasionally (once a month) showjump affiliated. I am also the Managing Director of a building company. So my horses and the children and their ponies are my hobby but I remember talk of entering competitions that paid prize money as being classed as 'reward'. The question is, in my situation do I have to take this CPC Training?

if you're driving your lorry for personal use only, then no.

I'm halfway through my HGV course and I haven't done my CPC because I'm doing my license for private use.

If you are receiving prize money this is classed as 'hire and reward' so yes, you would have to do it.
That depends on what sort of prize money is being won

Commercial LGV means making a profit or intending to make a profit

Spending £200 on diesel etc and sometimes winning a £100 would not be considered commercial by the authorities and the CPS would throw out such a case if brought

As driver cpc is only for commercial drivers of LGV & PCV vehicles then those with private LGVs do not need to bother with it

A horsebox liveried up with RACING etc is likely to get some attention !!
