Im looking at purchasing a new horsebox I have my class 2 licence and drive for a living. I generally only do 40hours a week so well withining my 56hours driving aweek it's just 45hour continuous break that would be the issue with driving to competitions at the weekend do would only be able to fortnightly.

Do private hgvs need to also abide by tacho rules or can you get an exemption on them?

Or is it easier stay under 7.5t to not need the use of a tacho?

My husband drives for a living - when he looked into it, it was a bit dicey from 3.5T upwards as all the rules apply for driver’s hours from 3.5T upwards for a commercial vehicle. The second you get prize money or a lead rope or bag of treats with your rosette it can be viewed as commercial. In fact, at the point of prize money apparently an operator licence is required…

So we decided to stick below 3.5T or have a larger trailer for more horses.
