Hi guys, I want to do my HGV asap... Ive been googling and now have questions! :$ :D

I was wondering what those of you who have done your HGV would recommend; do I use one of these firms that sort everything out for you (medical, all the forms etc) or is it worth saving the money and sorting all those things out myself and just paying them for the training and test?

Also, I know there are sometimes government run schemes that help with the cost of training, Ive seen then in the past for woman drivers, grooms etc. are there curently any schemes running? (I doubt it as I'm not that lucky but worth an ask!)

How long does the medical last, ie once you've got the certificate, do you have to pass your test with in a certain time?

Same sort of question regarding the theory, how long do you have between passing the theory and having to pass the driving test?

If any of you could help me with some or all of these ???'s I'd be most greatful :D Feel free to ahead with any other advice you think would be help too :)

Sorry for my awful spelling and grammer :/

Theory lasts for 2 years - I failed my HGV test on minors and couldn't scrape together enough money to do it again within the allotted time, so my theory ran out. Gutted as I really put the work in learning everything!

Re the medical, ask your docs what they'd charge before making the decision - some GPs really do take you to the cleaners for it. The guy I did my HGV training with had had pupils charged such insane amounts he had a list he sent out to all new pupils of 3 doctors in the area who would do an HGV medical for a fixed price that was at least in double figures rather than triple! But my GP did it for a tenner.

Thanks for that :)

My Gp wants £90! I thought that was about right, clearly not if yours did it for £10! I'm a very good customer of his to, I keep him in business with all my horse related injuries!
