Rode H today, did not feel quite right out on hack, done a little of everything. Got back to yard and he still did not feel right. Went in school and trotted up long side and he was lame, trotted back down long side felt lame.

Friend trotted him up for me and could not see anything obvious, maybe a little stiff.

He has only done 2 hours of work this week and I am struggling with him bloated out by grass. So really don't want to give him any more time off.

What would you do ?

a do 40 min hack of road work ? does this help ?
b do schooling
c give him a day off

lunging is no where in the options as he is a large boy and he struggles when un level and it has previously just made him worse.

did have a feel of all his legs, no obvious heat or cuts etc, feet had no stones. Obviosly when I say lame, he is not hopping lame, more unlevel. Going to trott him up for another owner tom to see if she can see anything.

cheers guys

p.s. he has been known to 'play lame' to get out of schooling. He used to be at a riding sool ad he would do it regularly to get out of work !!! vets even nerve blocked him but found nothing (when not owned by me)

Also, is it possible to obtain old vet notes on your horse, from before you owned him ? I loaned him for 3 yers before buying and I know what vets they used and they nerve blocked him. they told me nothing found but never spoke to vets asa i did not own him then.

soz for long post.

Couldn't you put him on box rest over the weekend. He wont damage himself even more & he won't put on weight; then trot him up on Monday and see the damage. If he's sound ride, if lame ring the vet!

I dont think you can obtain old vet notes, without the previous horse owners permission. Im pretty sure FeuFolet is a bit of an expert on this topic, so maybe drop her a PM?

He could just be a little stiff, maybe just go for a gentle hack tomorrow and then see how he is? I know what you mean about him playing lame, my horse does it quite alot, especially schooling. He won't feel lame, just unlevel. I used to always get off and leave him or take him for a hack if he didn't feel right as I felt bad making him work if he was a bit sore but now I know him better and and a wake up with the schooling whip and working him forwards and he miraculously recovers!!!! I'm sure you could get old vet notes, but you might have to get permission from the previous owner.

I thought box rest might be sugested.... trouble is he lives out 24/7 part of heard of 5. we have 4 stables but nothing is ever kept in so would be alone, which 2 years ago I would not have minded, but even if he is in a stable for 30mins now he does not like it and fidgets. I could not see him settle to be honest.

Thhanks god for that !!!!! someone else who has to put up with this !!! I used to be the same and give in to him, I stopped this and all has gone well for over a year now, but today he was just not right. Maybe you are right, hack out and to a degree ignore it but go gentle.
