About 2 years ago I started 'dressage training' my then 15yo horse. Up to that we did jumping and hunter trialing and fun riding and never bothered about outline etc. We had a ball. But now it's all flat work and dressage and, however slowly, we are progressing.

So now I think I need a dressage saddle and have started looking for a 2nd hand one. My horse is 17, he will never be a dressage horse and I am no Laura B. But I really feel I can't keep doing all this flat work in a jumping saddle any more. But I feel like a fraud. Please tell me it's ok to have a dressage saddle because I feel we don't deserve it.

Erm? ... Why don't you deserve it? Of course it's ok to have a dressage saddle. Look for something good quality which fits your horse. There are lots of second hand ones out there so you'll find something to suit you andyou

...sorry, pressed the post button too soon ... Just get the saddle and stop beating yourself up with this "don't deserve it" nonsense .... (blooming iPad!)

You NEED a dressage saddle! Lol. I do intro on my little mare (very occasionally) and I've got one, it puts me in a lovely position and makes flatwork so much easier. I use it for schooling, I find it helps remind me how to sit properly.

If you can get one, then do so. You don't have to be working at a certain level, you can have one anyway. Mine's a Thorowgood, so not expensive, but it is lovely, I wouldn't be without it even if we never did another competition.

Oh my goodness, yes you should get a lovely dressage saddle if you want one!!! I have a beautiful KN dressage saddle for my super quiet little pony who is in no way going to set the dressage scene on fire. I've never even considered whether I "deserve" it or not! He deserves to have a good quality professionally fitted saddle and if I want to have different saddles for flat work and jumping then I don't have to justify it and neither does anyone else!

HELL-LOOO! of course you NEED a dressage saddle. There is no more important bit of kit for your horse than the saddle, and you will have no idea about how much benefit you will both get from a dressage saddle until you get one. Just make sure it fits perfectly! AND OF COURSE WE NEED PICTURES!! :)

Of course you deserve one! I was considering buying myself a new one this year (bought a treeless one four years ago) but my horse chiro who is a sensible man told me that basically my horse didnt deserve as he'd been in and out if work so much. Wise man, horse went lame a month or so later, and six months down the line is only just being turned out again :rolleyes3:

You certainly deserve it though! :)
