puppy is at the vets, not sure if he will make it, he has eaten 2 strips of my painkillers (stupidly left them on the bench and puppy climbed up stole them) am not having a good week as i fell off my horsey and fractured my spine (hence painkillers)
according to the vet he has had twice the dose needed to put an adult dog into renal failure
i feel like such a failure so stupid not to have put them away properly

At least you got him to the vets. My friends lab pup ate a packet of ibuprofen and survived. She did it overnight and wasn't found until morning. That was 5 years ago and she is still ok.

Fingers crossed for puppy - and hugs for you.

Fingers crossed and hugs for you both - don't beat yourself up about it, there's no way you could have known what would happen. Lots of get-well vibes coming your way!

{{{Vibes}}} for your puppy and {{{Hugs}}} to you. I don't think it sounds stupid to forget/leave a strip with painkillers on a bench for a while, it's not as if you deliberately left them on the floor. If you have pills that you need to take, sometimes it can/does happen that you leave them within easy access for yourself, not puppies or children, just yourself. Never forget that accidents can happen to even the most careful people.

Fingers crossed for your puppy.

(((Huge vibes))) Im sure he will be ok, was it long between the time he ate them and getting him to the vet?
Don'y beat yourself up, this is a very common occurance, I frequently take calls re dogs/puppies that have eaten pills, or even owners that have taken the dogs heart meds and given the dog theirs

How old and big your pup now?
also left my very strong pain killers in the car, and the dogs scranned them, I jsut had to wait to see if any fell ill, as there was about 7 dogs in the car/doggy van at the time, I was livid, cos I was ill and had no pills

none of the dog showed any ill effect.

it was only an hour at most, hes 51/2 month now, and weighs just under 18kg, he was really bad when i got home, i knew something was wrong when he didnt come to the door, dead wobbly on his feet and retching, he was trying to go to sleep the whole way to the vet, thankfully my dad is newly retired and is on 24hr call lol, as i cant drive at the mo, puppy was sick on route though which is good

All the (((vibes))) I can muster, hopefully because u got him there quick it will stand him in good stead, do update us. xx and gentle (((hugs))) to u for your spine

Dogs are tough little sods, it's amazing how quickly they can bounce back. I'm so glad it sounds as though he is on the mend

As others have said, don't beat yourself up - it happens so easily and quickly especially at that young mischievous stage.

All are welcome in the clique of financial pain

I have had a quiet word with Henry and asked him not to break himself again until the insurance pays out for the last little lot!
