Ok, here goes....

Last week: 530kg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t318/bexboo1984/16062007275.jpg

This week: 520kg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t318/bexboo1984/21062007289.jpg

Unfortunately he has destroyed his starvation paddock and learnt how to remove his grazing muzzle so I'm not quite sure where to go from here.

Thinking of possibly stabling him during the day if he puts on any weight this week.

Add your updates everyone!

what do you mean by 'destroyed'??

I'd definatly consider putting him in during the day if he can get his muzzle off. Have you tried sewing up the velcro bit so he can't tear it undone? (we have to do this

)

well done murphy!

well wonka has managed to break his muzzle as well! and we don't have a starvation paddock, so he is staying in more this week until I can get to a tack shop and buy a new one; perhaps slightly different so he can't get it off or break it. I did manage to weigh him though and he came in at 268kg which is a lot less than he was when I got him as he was nearer 300kg!

well done to you bex, he is looking good!

Well Whisk hasn't lost any weight this week according to the weight tape but I think he looks thinner....slightly! Here he is in all his glory. Excuse the state of him these were taken just now when I brought him in. It has been bucketing down all morning and he wanted to "play" before he came in!!

Sorry, bit late, but mind if I join in?

Started last week with a grazing muzzle, Fat Pone has managed to drop 20kgs according to the weight tape. He is a 14.1hh Welsh D, managed to hit 495kgs(

), now down to 475kgs. Have gone out and bought some lunging gear in order to up his work. Will try and get pics, if the camera manages not to die on me!

Well done fine_and_dandy, ShadowFlame and Hadleigh (he looks yummy)!

When I say mine has destroyed his starvation paddock, I mean he has charged around and turned it into a mud bath even though I doubled its size and it now has to be rested!!

Don't know how he's actually getting the muzzle off, but he did it twice in the space of an hour on Friday, and it was found on the floor with the velcro done up, intact!

Re: the muzzle, are you sure it's done up tight enough? A friend's cob kept removing his because it was too loose. Otherwise, I've been told that putting a field safe headcollar over the top of the muzzle can help to keep it on.

ive just clipped my pony out fully so now im a bit concerned about her bucket rubbing her as she wears it 4 or 5 days a week and it was rubbing her when she was hairy. i may invest in some soft fabric to sew into it i think

Ouch

Many people on another forum swear by putting a headcollar over the top of the muzzle for those "houdini" pones, maybe worth a try?

Shires muzzles do seem to rub quite badly, my lads is plenty big enough yet all the straps rub, and it has still managed to rub his chin and bottom lip. I've heard good reports of the Dinky muzzle for not rubbing, so am going to order one for His Highness and see how it goes.

I stuck fleece on all the bits of the muzzle that were rubbing and it made no difference. Had a look at those Dinky muzzle but I think they'll be a bit small for my boy.

Asked on another forum about the Dinky muzzles and someone used the large size on their Highland, so am hoping it will be ok on a Welsh D.

I put silk-type material on my shires muzzle, has improved slightly but is far from ideal.

well, I went to weigh the fat shetland today, only to find he too has trashed his piggy paddock. It's completely churned up, so now will have to be rested too.

Re the headcollars over the muzzles... a field safe one would surely defeat the object as horses just rub their muzzles off anyway (so a fieldsafe headcollar wouldnt be hard to get off) and a normal headcollar could get caught...

My OH wants to know if it's possible to have a pony's stomach stapled? (YES... he was serious!!)

Also, have just measured the inside of the noseband on my Shires full size muzzle and it comes up as approx 25". Large Dinky muzzle suits 23-25", therefore a very similar fit.

thanks ShadowFlame, will look into one of those then.

This weather is so annoying, we should not be having to deal with this much mud in June...grrrr!!!
