Following the post in NL about confessions of things you do with your horses that would shock/horrify others, what do you do with yours dogs?

I let the Beast sleep on my bed

The labs only get one feed a day

I own a gundog which isn't trained to the whistle

I had Tina out working a month after her eye was removed

I clip my own dog (mini schnauzer)

I let Tina off the lead even though she is now deaf and doesn't come to call. (But if I can catch the attention of her remaining eye she will come running)

and I'm sure I'll think of others :D

Sometimes when Pads has been naughty and I tell him off, he tries to lick my nose and I end up giving him a cuddle instead :) Wrong I know but he's adorable!

My dog is kept on a lead 98% of the time

Our garden is tiny - room to poo and wee but not much else, certainly no room to run and play

Those two together should be enough to make most people apoplectic with rage. :p

I suppose my biggest confession is that I may one day breed from Evie.
Another, which would horrify many although not I hope sensible HHO'ers is they are all walked on a check chain (feel free to hurl abuse if you think I am cruel :p) and not all my training is done with treats, sometimes when younger they got a damn good telling off. I'll wait for the RSPCA to call shall I?

Hahahaa, great I have several!
My dogs are fed dry food ad lib (and are a perfect weight!)
They almost NEVER get treats (an occasional rawhide chew and shmackos for xmas) and certainly not for training
I have bred from my mongrel bitch (well, JRT but you know what I mean)
I smack her when she's naughty
They are not allowed upstairs or on the furniture.
They occasionally chase the horses if they're misbehaving and I have been known to scream obscenities and hurl a brush/mobile phone/bucket at them.
:D

If you have pups from Evie, I want I want I want :D and then I'll call the RSPCA :p

Its not going to be any time soon Kitty, I intend to wait until I am in a position to keep one, and that sadly means a time when I have lost one of the oldies, and I am in no hurry for that to happen. Have you seen the abandoned cutie in the post above?:D

Poppy sleeps under my duvet in the winter (until OH comes to bed when she is put in her crate), she gets to lick our dinner plates, and she sits on my knee sometimes in the car.

She also goes out to work with OH (mobile engineer) so spends a lot of time in the car (although when the snow was on the ground she did wear her fleece coat).

I let Henry off lead in public:D Despite his recall being 98% rather than the officially sanctioned 100% (what with him being, you know, a living being with ideas of his own rather than a Dogbot:p)

If strange dogs approach and they are off lead, I let them get on with it and have a play:eek:

Sometimes I get cross, scream and shout at the ground and stamp my feet (works a treat, I'm not yelling at Henry but the mad behaviour is enough to shock him and snap him out of whatever it is he isn't meant to be doing):o

My dog is a masked picnic raider:o And I still let him off the lead:D

Sometimes I throw sticks and stones for Henry:eek: Note 'for' not 'at'. Hardly ever.

I talk for my dog in a funny voice:o

I clicker train. There! I said it!

Annnnd finally.... I don't feed raw because I don't want to *runs screaming from thread pursued by ADD-ers with big sticks**

*whispers very quietly*-took the puppy off the raw diet asap because I was too lazy to cut up rabbit 4 times a day *also runs away !* (so far, on Royal Canin dry food, no upset tummies, regular poops and actually looking a bit chubby. James Wellbeloved -oooh never again )

My dogs live out pretty much all the time. IN RUNS!!!!!
When in, they have never even attempted to get on the furniture.

My dogs don't wear collars, they are walked in check chains on the dead ring and I will use the live ring as and when appropriate.

I have used a pinch collar.

They do not have constant access to toys - toys have a purpose.

They do not get treats. If I am training, they work for their food.

I let them playfight.

I give them raw turkey legs.

They only get off lead in our field, the lane and the beach when nobody else is there.

I WANT my dogs to bite :p (only certain objects though :p)

I take them training every week and they will be taken until the day they die

Wow, looking forward to the hate :p :D

My dogs never get treats

They are fed once a day

Im a firm, bordering on harsh owner when it's called for, rare with my own but common with a newby:rolleyes:

I have used check chains and still do any dog I deem needs one.

My dogs are rarely on a lead, inc my akita now, even when all 9 are out together

My dogs do not get toys, unless it can be played with out doors when walked, i.e ball or frizby

My whippets have their own bedroom

My rotti gets way more attention than all my dogs put together and is practically attatched to my side

I dont trust anyone to care for my dogs, except my mam, and I panick when she has them:o

I don't crate-and believe it to be an overused and misunderstood at times method.
I don't walk my dogs regularly.
I sometimes walk without any leads at all, round busy village parks..
My dogs travel without seatbelts.
They get thrown whatever they pick up in the park.
I only use normal collars and they wear them all the time.
I strongly dislike the pointed collars.
I don't subscribe to big strong dogs needing special measures, or understand how people cannot control their dogs when they see something e.g. rabbit, cat , as mine know what the 'voice' means and at the very worst simply lie down where they are...
I will however use the spray collar for barking and am strongly considering an electric fence collar for one dog.
I don't have a fence round my garden-and the dogs are loose even when I'm not home.
I don't trim my dogs nails.
I don't feed anything other than bog standard food.
And I have 4 dogs that dont misbehave, annoy other dogs, roam, run away, etc. (save one..and it's not strictly speaking mine..)
Oh and all of mine have been pups, none rescues.

I'm ready to be lynched now :D

I dont think I have anything to confess? You all KNOW I spoil mine rotten :D:D:D

Mind you I do (sometimes!) work full time.... :o:o:o

I work full time
I have a dog flap albeit into a secure locked area.
The dogs have their own sofa;)
They get treats
I have been known to shout, swear and throw things at them when they are chasing things they shouldn't.
I use a check chain on the rottie because he backs out of standard collars
I also use him to scare off trespassers (the command is "Go give them a kiss" - he doesn't but he does charge up to them)
If I'm getting more than one horse in at a time, they have to sit, stay on a public footpath until I'm through the gate.
I laugh when the littlest JRT gets chased by the cockerel:o but I would kick her behind if she retalitated, in fact I used a horrible goose when she was a pup to stop her pulling the chickens by the tails - it worked.

And the worst:D:D I have a 45kg Rott Lap dog......the terriers sit on my shoulders as there's no room on my lap:eek:

My two wear leather collars all the time:eek:
They hardly ever go on the lead:eek:
They get fed allsorts - dry food, raw, leftovers etc etc:D
They eat all sorts of dead things when out walking :D
They get bones :D
They have their own sofa :D
They sleep on my bed :D
They travel 'loose' in the car
They are spoilt rotten....;):D:D:D

So hate me............:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I've just asked my OH for an outsider's perspective and he'd like to add:

Me getting down on the floor and wrestling with the dog

Travelling her loose in the car

Letting her take raw chicken and other assorted carcases into the living room to eat, dropping it on the carpet as she goes (yep, I've become that doggy house that no-one wants to visit because it's covered in hair and smells of meat...)

My dog had her first bath, in five years, a few weeks ago. :o

She gets tidbits all the time :o and the milk from my cereal every morning....

Some days, I don't walk her :O

I play wrestle with my dog

I let my dog sit on the sofa with me when no one is there.

I dress my dog up.

My male dog has pink collars/leads.

I used a choke chain when required.

My dog responds better to 'hurry up fatty' then his actual name :o

This thread is why I love AAD - we all know we do things we "shouldn't" do, but hey, they are our dogs and we are (mostly :p) sane enough to do the right thing by them, and ask for opinions when we're unsure. Nawwww :D

As for us, Madam Spangle was often found in our bed, firmly under the duvet.
Her recall was a standard Spangle job (about 90-95%) :p
We both worked full-time
I threw sticks for her all the time (mostly because I forgot a ball...sometimes they were just closer :o)

:D I love dog owners

Great thread! Here are mine off the top of my head;

My dogs sleep on or in my bed, the big ones get in when OH gets up in the morning.

I own a dog and people aggressive dog that would happily kill anything in sight....and I walk her off lead and un muzzled. (She goes on lead in public areas)

I breed :o

I show :o

I work my dogs :o

My dogs have their own swimming pool

I talk to them all like children

I just made my lodger move her handbag off a chair because my terrier wanted to sit on it :p :o

I allow them to chase/race cyclists and cars up the boundry of our land because its funny, and good exercise!! :o :D They don't chase either or attempt to when not on our land and behind a fence though!

Ummmm...I think thats enough for now!

welll....

the doberman has her own spot on the sofa,if anyone sits there, she stares at them until they move! :D

the whippet is aloud under my duvet and under the cover on the sofa which is meant to be "protecting" it from dog hair

we let them play fight often, but keep an eye on them as the whippet gets a bit demonic

they stay in cages whilst we are out

they get fed dry food

we use a check chain on the dobie and a spray collar aswell as she has a chasing cats

if i see another dog coming whilst on a walk and its off a lead, the whippet goes on the lead but the dobe stays off as its better for her!

we often shout at the dobie as she can be plain stupid and annoying at times!!

i reckon that will do :D

I love the way some people are putting things that are polar opposites but they are still 'confessions' :D

OK I'm going to make a BIIIG confession.

One of our cats came home today after a weekend at the vet's - Mumsie's voice wasn't enough to stop the dogs using her as a tug toy :o
*Mine would have been*
Wanders off muttering.......

Ok here goes.....

Isabel..... is allowed on the furniture
sometimes sleeps in the bed
travels loose in the car sometimes
i show her
she will be bred from later this year
kept on a lead when walking

Cant think of any more at the moment :D

My dog hardly ever wears a lead,
Never has a collar on.
Not microchipped
sometimes I forget to feed her breakfast!
She has her own bean bag and knows when we have visitors she CAN be a lap dog.
I have left the house and forgot the dog - sunbathing in the garden when i got back!!

Couple more from me

Beastie is only ever walked on a choke chain, she never wears a collar

Labs are always walked on slip leads

I went through a period of not getting them vaccinated annually

I wrestle with Beastie

Sometimes I can't be bothered to tell Beastie off for barking so just let her get on with it

If they need it, they will be firmly disciplined!

Hmmm,

- He's allowed on the sofa
- He sleeps in the bedroom (in his own bed though)
- He is sometimes allowed on the bed for a 'hello' in the mornings
- My OH and I both work full time
- Our garden isn't secure and he has been known to scare the pants of people walking up the footpath by our house :-0
- He's almost never on the lead
- He travels in the boot of the car
- I don't own a crate, he stays on the sofa when we go out (I think!)

Think that's all...
