Im New to posting here but have been reading the boards for a while
and was wondering if you guys might help me make a descion
first of all Ive been riding for 15 years had a break to have my daughter
and now I'm getting back into it i had two horses when i was 18 a mare are and gelding both tb x and 16 hh
anyway to cut a long story short Ive just moved to Suffolk from London and have been looking around for a horse to buy and Ive come a cross a lovely YO who said i can loan out her 17.2 hh hunter
hes 17 rs old and gorgeous so Ive been and ridden him twice
the problem i have is he wont stand still to tack up and groom and i mean moves a hell of allot as he is sharing a field with two mares and he is obsessed with them whinnies and gets quite anxious
hes fine as soon as your on him
my problem is he is so big and I'm thinking I'm 120 % confident riding him but on the ground he is a tad scary with the moving around very quickly you have to move out the Way so quick as he spins round
hes just clumsy coz hes so big no malice in him
what shawl i do take him on or try to get on with him and see before i say yes as i do not want to get myself in a pickle
do you think he will ever stand apparently his only been like this the last 6 months as he hasn't been ridden alot as YO has 3 other horses and hes got so attached to the mares ,
he was in a rs for years and kids rode him as he is so kind when your on him
ummm what do you think i should do ???
im going to spend a week with him to see if i can tolerate the spinning around
help
 
It is possible that regular work may make a real difference to this horse, plus a little confidence in you. Maybe you could do some groundwork and lunging to remind him that he needs to be listening to you. Why don't you ask to try him for a month while he remains at his current home and see if things improve a bit before you commit any further - although with a loan agreement you can give up the horse any time.
 
yeah goood idea i will be keeping him at her yard she really is honest about him and she really is a lovley woman
so maybe its my confidence that needs a rocket up my bum tee hee
 
As he has only started doing it due to not being worked then I'm sure it won't take long for him 'relearn' the standing still behaviour with your and YO help and patience. It would be a big shame to miss out on this horse and opportunity on something quite small. I say go for it. Good Luck, he sounds like a really nice horse!
 
it sounds like you have found a good loan situation !xxx just bring him in even when you are not riding and give him a flick over it doesnt even have to be a full groom just so that he can get used to you and the new situation. good luck

all is well just needed my confidence back and it is thanks for all the help haynet with hidden carrots is great hes like a big kid bless
