Hello, newbie here... I recently brought a rodney powell bp and was wondering if its normal to not be able to put it on with out un-doing the velcro!!

I was fitted and was told it was a perfect fit,, feels comfy when its on!

The fitter said it should begin to mould to my shape the more i use it,, is this right? Just wondered if everyone struggles with them really, also when un-doing the velcro each time i obviously have to put it back to a comfy fit which is time consuming, but hopefully it will mould... sorry im babbling.. jus didnt want to take tags of until im sure!!
Thanks for any advice :-)

Hi

I used to have a rodney powell BP and to be honest it was never comfortable!

It was big and bulky and always felt that way :(

I gave up and got a racesafe which is 100% better and I forget im wearing it - was only about £40 more expensive that the RP and so worth it!

(I wear my BP every time I ride)

Not so helpful just my experience :)

I have to agree - I had a Rodney Powell and it was like a straitjacket. I wore it at home, did the hoovering etc to try to soften it up - made no difference.
I recently got an Airowear one and it's a revelation - it is actually really comfortable.

Sorry OP, I do realise that's probably not the answer you wanted ;)

I agree with the other posters. RP BP's are so bulky and restrictive compared to others on the market. However in answer to your question (and being a BP fitter) you should not need to undo the velcro at the back to be able to do it up. When the BP was fitted to you the fitter should have adjusted the velcro to fit you, and therefore it should not require undoing. When you want to do up the zip, put your thumbs inside the arm holes, and pull your hands towards each other to bring the BP to a close across your chest (does that make sense?). This should make doing up the zip easier. Depending upon how well endowed you are in the chest area, I have found Rodney Powell BP's better on the flatter chested people, they don't allow much boob room!!!!

http://www.dragonflysaddlery.co.uk/largeimages/RP_Elite.1L(1).jpg this is the one I have and HATE it. The only reason why I got it was because I was coming back to riding after a break last summer and was doing a xc camp at my yard and my instructor made me get one. There was a massive horse show on that week so all tack shops were closed minus one (not so great one) and this was the only option for me.

The worst part is I spent over 150 on it, didn't end up even need it until the last day of camp when all the shops were reopened  Wish I could've gotten the racesafe tbh! The Rodney Powell like some poster said already,is like a straight jacket and feels like it actually makes my shoulders curve which affects my position a lot! Also After only a month of owning it I fell off a since then I've had 2 permanent dents into the back of the shoulders on it!

Get racesafe, from friends I hear they're more fitting, less hassle trying to fit on or under clothes, non restrictive in movement and generally look better!

I can do mine up without undoing the velcro, but for it to be more comfy I have to undo the velcro. If I don't it seems to squash me in and I get a nice tyre of fat lying underneath. So I undo the velcro to get the fat in lol! And I hardly ever do it up as tight as the fitter did, again due to this fatty thing.
It is a lot comfier than my old BP, which was very old. Is there actually any BPs that ARE comfy to wear?

thanks to all who have replied, charlimouse- i need boob room., so maybe i brought the wrong style ;) I tried doing it up that way but haven't got great strength in my hands!

Fueledbyaisling- thts the one i have! It wasnt that much tho!

It generally feels comfy on, just hassle to put on... iam going on a big hack later, might take it along to the yard and try it, if not i will look into racesafe one.

Thanks :D :D :D
