hello everyone.... hope you're all well, its months since i've had 5 mins to come on here, let alone Post anything!!

am after some suggestions.....

we've got a mare at home, who has done intro eventing, RC dressage & SJ & is reasonably ok at the above , she's TB, raced (badly) many years ago & has also bred a foal, she's not good enough in our opinion to bred another foal from, she's comfy jumping up to 3' - 3'3 but no more, and is 16yo, and at 16.3 is too small for my 6'5 brother! My brother needs a much bigger weight carrying horse which she isn't, hence we need to sell her to buy him a giraffe!!

I am really struggling to sell her (she's not actually advertised atm as she is only just in light work (brother is at uni) but she'll be doing more soon, the problem, (& to me it isn't) is that she isn't a novice ride, she's capable at what she does, but she needs riding, she needs to know who is in charge, and will take the p*** if she thinks she can, but at 16yo, and only comfy at RC level, the market she fits into everyone want 100% bombproof to hack.... which while she's not stupid she's not bombproof, and thats the 1st thing people ask, she's also quite a hard puller across country, so while fine for a strong person, she's not really a teenagers horse, nor is she what i would describe as a confidence giver, although she isn't dirty or untrustworthy

so.... basically i'm too honest & can't tell fibs when people ask questions, so do i perservere and once she's fit again readvertise or do i send her to a dealer, if so, has anyone got any suggestions of dealers northwest midlands (all the ones i know sell the more upmarket competition horses & hunters)

other than that, everyone else is pretty much ok, pickles is still lame & awaiting a decision about what i'll do with him (i'm waiting for the vet to find what is wrong with him)

Sorry haven't got any advice but was only thinking you hadn't been on here for ages. Do I take it married life is good?

Hope everythings well with you both

Hi there!! Hope all is well with you and that married life is suiting you well.

I would get her up and running, take her to a few RC shows, get her name banded about a bit and then put her back on the market again. Once she is known in the area where you believe there may be a market (RC I mean) then people are more likely to come forward and ask about her.

Good luck.

thanks both!!

yep married life is great, just leaves me with no time for internet!!

down side to the taking her to RC thing is my brothers riding, while as brave (& stupid) as they come he lacks considerable skill, & subsequently isn't geared up to showing a horse to its best..... i would be riding her but currently have a small (getting larger) package that comes with a husband enforced ban on jumping..... byt the time i pop i'd really like to have her sold!

Ooooooh!!! BIG congratulations RD!!!!

I am sooooo happy for you both!

Going back to the dilemma - can you find another rider for the mare?

again it comes down to time to find someone, & i have none, having looked locally for people who want sharers/loans etc, they all want bombproof horses, & no offence to the millions of teenage girls who would be glad to ride her, if i'm trying to sell her i don't want her getting ruined by someone who 'thinks' they are gods gift

have lost faith in horsey people & their concept of experianced... can you tell!!??

It happens.

You learn to live with it to be honest.

How about reducing the price? Or would that not make much difference do you think?

oh -congrats first of all.

if you are happy to send her to a dealer then fine, personally I couldn't. my horse fell into no real bracket either, and I ended up selling him as a hunter with a failed flexion test for not alot less than i bought him (£100!)..

I'd say get her fit, and try and sell her as a horse who goes well on the flat (you can ride :-) and will jump but obviously you can't!

Good luck

Don't know what to advise re:the mare as I'd have said the same as Tia, but as you're now banned from jumping that isn't an option.
Just wanted to say huge congratulations on the little 'bump'....life must indeed be good with you

I sympathise with your dilemma greatly. I will spread the word about her down here and see if I cannot generate any interest in her. Is she still up for hunting or is she just too strong?

Get a certain galloping granny to be to ride her at some RC shows

Not sure on what else, I know the problem you have - and not sure I would recommend any dealers I know!

Hi RD - Glad things are ok with your bump

(and glad to hear that you're still riding too - albeit not hedge-hopping any longer!!)

Have you thought about sticking an advert on project horses? www.projecthorses.co.uk - He's not a project - but people who look on there are looking for two things... firstly a bargain - and secondly something that they know that they'll have to ride? Just a thought!

First, Many many congratulations hunny

superb news, and not a moment too soon, there was only one thing that would stop your hedge hopping malarky lol
Very sorry to here Pickles is still lame

and i take it young Ians BE debut will be put on hold.

The mare sounds fun, but obviously not everybodies ride.

The BHS webby might be a good place to advertise, thats where I put Bally and she sold quickly plus it was free advertising.
What about your local hunt? PC?
There are loads of ppl who just want a horse to take them round intro standard and RC things and who dont wish to jump any higher than 3ft.

Thanks everyone!!

BB's how is Noopy?

Ian is very well, although sulking like MAD & picking on Anky, becasue although i am still riding Anky i stopped riding Ian just after christmas, becasue i couldn't get on him! being a quirky little man, i couldn't get close enought to him (with bump) to get a leg up to get on!! so he's having a holiday, My mum & Alex were also not so keen for me to be riding a 'dangerous psycotic' while i was pregnant.... i was unimpressed they still think the little angel is so sharp, but i suppose its what you're used to!

The local hunt know her too well & she isn't a horse that enjoys the wet, so doesn't make for a very good hunter,

Noppy is now SNOOPY lol

Snoops is well thank you, jumping BN going Disco this weekend and did his first xc schooling last weekend all very sucessfully.
Hes turning into a joy to ride, dont want to part with him now.

Now, I dont believe its possibly to have a fat RD, even when you were powered my Mr Kipling, Ben and Jerrys and now Mint Aeros....I want picture proof of Blooming RD lol

Bugger, umm i did think you would have gone down the Hunting home route tbh, but thought id just check lol

Might be worth putting in an ad in H&H outlining all the pros and cons and see what you get?
Put a notice in the paper, there are some pretty good young jockeys out there who dont have the money to own their own horse but would be happy to take on something like this mare.
Free ads paper too, local tack shop.
