Hi everyone,

I just wanted to quickly introduce myself as I am new to this forum. For the last 6 years I have owned a 16.3hh Hanoverian mare, called Joy. We used to do quite a bit of dressage and some show-jumping, but after an operation on her fetlock in June we're taking it slowly. Unfortunately for me I had to leave her at home when coming to uni, but my mum is looking after her and they both seem to enjoy it very much. (Even though I'd much prefer having her here with me and ride more often!)

PS: You'll probably find grammar mistakes in my posts as I'm not a native speaker. So let me apologize in advance :)

Hello and welcome.

Your English is brilliant, by the way - I wish could speak/write Dutch ? German? a fraction as well as you can speak English!

How's your mare's fetlock now? :)

hello and welcome. :)
There are a few things you may need in here.
A tin hat.
Some popcorn.
a thick skin
And a sense of humour!

Enjoy!! :)

You will also need the following items;
a carrot stick
a long 20m rope to wave around
the full set of DVDs and special head collar for make sure your horse super loves yiou and everything is ew natural ;)

You can purchase these items at the fab price of £35,500 from Pilar ;)

oh and hello

Thanks for the warm welcome! :)
Puzzles, I'm studying medicine, so I'd probably manage to look after a horse now but not when I get to my clinical years. How do you manage?
Mrs B, good guess! I do speak German fluently, it's my mother tongue. Her fetlock is alright, not perfect but better than expected, she's still a bit unsound some days but it's usually fine!
Fii, I've got the popcorn, thick skin and a sense of humour (I hope!) Could you get me the tin hat?

Haha Black horse, I'm afraid if I wave my 20m rope around, my horse simply gives me a blank look.. We definitely have to work on that :p Oh, and I don't ride in a bitless bridle, do you now hate me? :D

Thanks for the warm welcome! :)

It's only because I've lived in Hamburg and recognised the speech patterns!
Fetlock injuries (like many leg problems) are so difficult. I hope she comes sound soon.

Fii will provide you with a tin hat - no problem! It's for when the posts on the forum become a bit heated!

Hi and welcome.
You are brave to join and thick skin is a must. It helps too if you can admit your wrong sometimes.
I am off to get a tin hat too
but its all good fun and nice to have advice when you need it.

Oh wow, I bet that's intense! Good luck with it :) The horses I ride are at home but I get withdrawal symptoms within a few days, but I make do by popping back about once a month (aka twice a term).
Wish I were fluent in another language! Is German your native tongue?

I think I just uploaded two pictures to my profile, if you want to have a look? (I hope it worked..)

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever get rid of some of the speech patterns, but as long as people can understand me that's fine.
I know it takes a long time! But to be honest I don't believe, she'll ever be 100% sound again. So no more jumping or lateral work for us.

Tin hat it is then!:D I just had a look around the forum and there seems to be a lot of interesting stuff going on!

It can be intense at times but it's usually fine to be honest! And tell me about withdrawal symptoms! I manage to go riding weekly and still feel like that's nothing.. And yeah, it's my native tongue. :)

Hallo und herzlich willkommen!

(I hope that's right, I only did French and Spanish so had to resort to Google Translate  )

:D

Dankeschön! :) That's perfect!
:D

Edit: Here's another picture for you, she's the darker one :)

Welcome :D
Beautiful horse :)

I'm at uni studying Bioveterinary Science, its difficult balancing time to come home to see mine (I live away; she's the bay in my signature picture) and getting all my work done, but I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Going off on one slightly here (I think it's the jealousy ;)) but your English is pretty perfect! How one earth can Mrs B know where you're from based on speech patterns that seem very English to me!

Thanks for the compliment :o I think it's be a feeling you develop when living in a country for a while, at least that's what I'm told :)

Welcome :D

Thanks for the welcome!
I wish it would work out for me like that! It must be great to be able to combine everything that is important to you! :) But as much as I'd love to have my horse here, I don't think that that would be in her best interest at the moment. I know that she's happy at home and the only reason to have her here with me would be because it would be nicer for me, but probably not for the horse. I don't think that would be fair on her.. My mother has ridden her once or twice a week since we got her, so they know each other really well. What do you want to do when you finish uni? Something with horses? :)
