I have to do an applied data analysis and research project for my college course

I am having trouble thinking of a project i can undertake on a small scale (up to 20 horses)

I enjoy learning about biomechanics/massage type things and lameness issues....

If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated - message me if needed :)

Many thanks

Sophie

I have always thought the following would be interesting to look into, and it is related to mobility so possibly relevent to you.

I would love to compare the exercise level of different groups of horses over a set period of time. For example, people say that a paddock paradise system promotes activity as the horses are constantly 'searching' for grazing.

I would ideally be interested in four groups of horses...

Normal Herd Grazing
Restricted Grazing (traditional)
Paddock Paradise system.
Horses that are stabled at night and out at day (are they more active to compensate for their restricted movement in the stable).

I would want to source some horses that are not working for a period of say 72 hrs, and monitor their activity over this time.

Ideally these horses would be rugged and you would control as near as possible for size and age (if you could)

Measurements would be taken by attaching a pedometer to the horses rug (ensuring it is kept waterproof and as safe as possible from harm :D)

I think that the results would be really interesting and give a real insight into activity levels relating to different approaches to keeping horses.
