Hi-Vis...need a reason??...

I looked at this website some time ago and was terribly disturbed by what I read. For years I've rarely worn hi-viz other than in foggy or very wet weather when the visibility has been poor. However having had a year or so away from horses, and having got a bit older and hopefully wiser, and as I now have a loan horse, rather than one that's strictly mine, I consider that I must take even greater care as a result of looking after someone else's horse, and I do now wear hi-viz. I recently bought a fluourescent yellow fleece jacket from a firm called Equifleece- you can see me for miles now. It's so bright, particularly in the sun, that you need sunglasses! It's actually very smart, cosy and I do not look like a Christmas tree.

So so sad. But she was wearing Hi Vis at the time, the driver must have come round the corner so fast he had no hope of stopping. What an idiot.

I live in the New Forest where there are plenty of wild horses, ponies, donkies and cattle. I will be printing off that story and handing it out to as many people in the area as I can. If it slows one person down, that's one better than before. Fingers crossed.

That is asad story.. but I don't really see what it has to do with wearing hi-vis as they were wearing it and still got hit....

Me and my horse were wearing High Vis when we got hit, fortunately she is still alive although not rideable, I now wear even more high vis than ever - CAUSE at least I know that I have done my very best, and that there is no question about whether the horse could be seen

Perhaps this image will slow at least one person down.

There are times when a car is travelling so recklessly that nothing will save you but it has been proven that the wearing of Hi Viz makes you easier to be seen & also be seen earlier. Being seen earlier gives drivers more time to react. Sometime in the future I can see that it will be law for riders to wear Hi Viz. It shouldn't have to be, it should be common sense.
