One of my liveries had a horrible incident yesterday which involved her horse ditching her and bolting from the bridle path onto a main A road.
We honestly beleive the horses life was saved on account of the fact he was wearing a bright yellow exercise sheet and thus was easily seen by cars.
Please all be aware!!!

Glad everyone was OK.

We also only hack out with hi-viz for ourselves and the horses.

An extra advantage is that in winter we also use hi-viz exercise sheets in addition to their leg bands and a lot of drivers think we are the police and are most considerate!

I can't understand why people ride out without high viz. Sunday was wet, windy and dull, yet someone from our yard donned a navy blue exercise sheet, brown jacket, and took her bay horse for a ride with no high viz. The annoying thing is, the other girl who rides with her always used to wear high viz until this person started hacking out with her, and now she too thinks it is 'un-cool'. Personally my lad has an exercise sheet and breastplate covers, and I always have a tabbard or coat on.

The thing is, people need to realise that the most important part of the story is the HORSE had reflective gear, a tabbard on a rider is no good unless you plan on never falling off!

I personally hate the stuff but would rather look like a bit of a divvy than be dead!!!

I always wear hi-viz - got a jacket rather than a tabard type. However I don't put anything on my horse so yes this is a good reminder!!

I always wear a tabbard or jacket and a hat band, and George wears martingale bands, noseband cover and an exercise sheet or tail guard in summer - the yard say that we can be seen from space!

When I came off the Dizz, the helicopter man said thank you for making his job easier - I was wearing a high-viz tabard thing and was easily spotted from the air.

We usually go out with hi-viz exercise sheets and boots on the neds, and a hi-viz tabbard or jacket on the riders.

So pleased the horse was okay.

Which is my new yard rule - I have just spent £60 on hi viz gear for the yard and God help any of my liveries who dont wear it when leaving!!!

Thanks for the reminder. I always have a tabard and leg bands on my horse but have been thinking about getting an exercise sheet. Anyone know where I can get a decent one that stays put as my old one used to slip about under the saddle?

Our horses dont leave the yard without hi viz on horse and rider, if the worst does happen you both need to be seen. If someone is walking with the horses i expect them to wear it too. I already have a bright orange headcollar for my new boy to match my orange fleece jacket. Wear a tabbard in summer though. Need to get him a rug now.

The worst thing is when you HiViz up yourself and your horse and people LAUGH at you like you're making a huge fashion faux pas!

Like hacking out is a fashion show?

Mind you these are the same ADULT women who ride without hats cos they'v just had their hair done. (!!!!)

More to the point, away from the stables they have the WORST fashion sense I have ever seen! Even Gok Wan would cry!
