Which colour hi-viz do you think it's most visible? Going to be leading along a twisty single track road. Pony, child and me on foot. Is it best to get a combination of colours? I'm thinking tabard for both of us, headband on hat, breast plate and either exercise sheet/quarter rug for pony? It's been years since I hacked out on roads.

Have a google on the ex police hi viz clothing pages, lots and lots of kit at reasonable prices.

Colour wise, I think yellow at this time of year and orange in summer.

I have a pink jacket which also has reflective strips. It's the one other road and path users comment on, jokey remarks along the lines of "we can't miss you" or "I saw you miles away". I don't get the same comments with my yellow or orange tabards.

That's riding on bridle paths or roads with high hedges or woods so I guess it's most contrasting with the vegetation.

I think a lot of it depends where you're hacking.

For me, I find pink most visible as I do a lot of forest & farm hacking so orange blends in for the Autumn/Winter & yellow blends in too much in the Summer. But pink is what gets commented on the most.

Having said that, I do have a bit of a mix as over the years, I've not always been able to replace in pink.

Can’t beat a bit of clashing high viz. This is us earlier this week. I’m in yellow and orange on the lead bike, mounted child is in yellow, pony in blue (the sheet is far too large but heyho) and smallest child is in a luminous orange sailing jacket. On a grey misty day the orange seems to be most visible (husband bringing up the rear and taking the photo was in yellow!).

Another for mainly orange but just remember that if the sun is low in the sky the drivers can’t see anything. I posted on here not long ago that I had hi viz on but nearly got hit by a car as the driver was blinded by the sun. Don’t ride/lead into the sun early or late at this time of year - if you must, go in the opposite direction!

Sorry to be doom and gloom but it really shook me up.

Years ago when I liveried at a riding school I was just leaving as I met a ride coming back. They all wore hi viz but it really hit me how much the girl in pink stood out. Since then I’ve tended to buy pink tabards for hacking.
If you have it available then a mix of colours is your best bet.

Orange in winter, spring, and summer. I tend to wear yellow in autumn.

I had the most fantastic bright white jacket with that silver reflective tape on it when I was a teenager. It worked so well in summer and spring. Horse would be in orange or pink exercise sheet, hat would match horse and my white jacket used to stand out brilliantly in between. I miss that jacket.

I go out in a glorious mismatch of yellow, orange and pink.

The hat is pink, I like to have a high viz hat as this is whet people can see over the hedges. In summer, the horse has high viz ears too.

We have hat, gloves, jacket or long sleeve tabard, whip, ears and exercise sheet/ fly sheet.

I like the XL bright pink schooling whip, it keeps cars at a distance.

In low light conditions, orange is more visible - as is white, interestingly (not that it’s a hi viz colour). My son on his coloured pony is the most visible of all of us as the sun goes down - him in his orange jacket and the pony with all the white on her. My yellow/pink jacket fades more quickly as the light does.

Looks like a combination! It's a short stretch of road onto the forestry, I used to always wear pink previously. Pony is coloured but mainly white.
