Hi,was wondering how haylage to feed a-
400kg horse
500kg horse
600kg horse

as ive been searching on the internet and all answers are different,i would really appreciate this cheers.

General rule of thumb feed twice as much haylage as hay as haylage contains twice as much water content. I used to feed approx 32lbs a day to a 17.1hh WB who was out in the field on poor to moderate grazing for up to 5 hours a day. He would get that in tubs and nets spread over the day whilst stabled.

[/ QUOTE ] That's because all horses are different! Some need a lot more haylage to maintain their condition than others! Plus there are many types of haylage - some with a higher water content than others (so heavier) and some with a higher calorie content than others.

As the other poster said, best to feed ad lib unless the horse is overweight.

My 16.2 TB X has around 21lbs overnight now, plus another net in the morning before he goes out (sorry, not really sure how much he weighs). So pretty much adlib.

i feed mine all ad-lib.

we have the big 4ft haylage bales and they get 1 slice at night and then another 1/4 of a slice in the morning before they go out.

Vinnie who lives out gets 2 slices a day.

I feed my 17.1hh warmblood about 12 - 14kilos a day. He is out for 10hours a day but the grazing is pretty much non-existant at the mo.
