hi,
my boy is in axiom rug, got on ebay in oct and it was 6'0 but as he is 2 1/2, so i knew he would grow out of it soon, which he has so i got a 6'3 and now still seems bit neat at chest its just ok but i know i need a wider rug so will have to get another and wear this now as dont want him rugless aqs he lives out 24/7 and had skin problems this year so hasnt the thickest coat thats why i rugged him. i did measure him before i orederd and it was just 1 inch under a 6'3 so ordered it, so axiom must not be to wide at chest.
anyone know of a reasonable priced turnout rug with wide chest and has a neck. he is in a 600 d and 300g fill and seems very happy.
thanks for reading
just need one so will pay any price but cheaper the better as just wasted £54 for few weeks wear.

Weather beeta tend to be wide, as do Rambo. For our chunky monkey cob - to get a good fit all over we plumped for a chest expander, the next size up was just too long.

If the rug is ok otherwise, why not just get a chest expander panel, you can get them for most of the major makes I think. Only about £10. Think the Shires one has similar buckles to an Axiom?

I've just bought the Premier equine Trio rug - the one with 3 liners and 2 hoods. I always used Rambo's before that (which I have to say rubbed the front of his shoulders) but bought an Optimo and was disappointed with the fit and it slipped all over the place. Didn't rub though! But I think an Optimo would be fine for a wide chested horse.

I am really pleased with the Premier Equine rug. I bought the normal size despite reading loads about them being massive and it is great, doesn't move even when he is hooleying around and rolling for England. It comes down nearly to his knees which is lovely as he is nicely protected. The hood has a cool elastic bit at the top to stop the cold air getting in and its lovely and snuggly as it also has velcro where the fixing loops are so there are no gaps.

Have not had problems with rubbing if the original rug didn't rub. You'd just have to give it a try I guess. I think they are normally about a foot wide so does make a fair difference.

it seems to be the top buckle at front that is neat, well just fits at min. the bottom one has another hole to open but if i open it there is a loose gap on it, seems that rug moves back abit. but has loads of length at backside. but the top buckle at front is at its last hole, so would an expanable fix this without having to buy another rug just yet. i just dont know what to do. i just think a 6'6 would be too big or am i wrong, maybe thats just what he needs.
just cant aford to buy another and it not to be right. thanks for help

OOh Percheron x - have you posted any pics. Our lass was a percheron cross - we think (polish meat cob) and she was an absolute star, stunning looks, bold and brave jumper and such a 'nice' horse to be around. My ears always prick up when I hear the P word.

Weatherbeeta - the Original (not Freestyle) fit my wide show cob.
Try the WB Landa Original (220g filling) - around £65ish I think
I had my last one for 4 years and have just replaced it with a new one, never leaked, warm, Cob has a WB Taka Original as a HW, also on its 5th Winter, love them!
I find the neck on the Premier Equine too long and too narrow on my show cob.

Id say weatherbeeta landa too. Very spacious round the front however i find their necks to be a tight fit.

I recommend the chest expander, got one to attach onto the neck of one of my rugs(very very short straps!) and you can take the square pad out of it and just use the straps to elongate them.

I find Shires full neck turnout's the best fit for my HW Maxi cob, I have them in every weight from no fill rain sheet to 400g HW, they all fit brilliantly. Weatherbeeta and Masta don't fit him and I am shortly to try a Mark Todd under-rug (having discovered Kingshead don't fit either....)

My broad chested mare fits beautifully in her premier equine rugs and they are nice and deep too :). She has the buster trio & the 150g stable with liner systems and I love them, they are brill :).

Ps. The necks on them are generous and long and on the turnouts have an elasticate top to stop water going down. Ive often struggled with necks not being long enough on rugs but these are spot on :)

Weatherbeaters are good usually.

Shires have been wonderful with ours.

Rambo are too small on my gelding, who has a huge chest - they're tight round the shoulders.
