Can't you pull up and trot down - I am sure you won't be the only one :)

Or if you can go down in a hand canter - its very comfortable and feels perfectly safe.

A hand canter would be most comfortable I'd have thought, I rarely trot mine down hill out hunting, we either walk or do a hand canter, being able to sit and sit up(!) make you feel much safer.

i doubt we'l be doing much cantering down hills this year but if we do, just sit right back, heels down and thighs round the saddle and you should be fine:):)

if you can't pull up and walk or trot down the hill then try this...

as you approach the slope, shorten your reins, and bridge them across your horse's neck....
lighten your seat and make sure your weight is on your stirrups...
keep your feet underneath you so that if your horse does trip or stumble you aren't going to make it worse by being tipped forward...
