Was sooo annoying, I have been there for the last two days and in the end gave up watching anything in the main ring as you couldn't see a thing unless you were in the members enclosure!!

The course was built so from the main normal stand you could see two jumps properly, and there were no cameras so you couldn't see at all. Then for jump off they changed the course and took away the two jumps we could see. If Hickstead people are reading this

PLEASE consider people watching in other events, I know its geared up torwards the finale derby, but it's fustrating when you can see nothing at one end!

Can't comment on your experience at Hickstead although I've never had any problems at the RIHS there but lack of consideration for the paying public audience is lacking at other shows too. The New Forest Show, for example, has the showjumping (which attracts some big names) in a ring which is actually more of a rectangle with the collecting ring along one short side, the members enclosure along one long side and most of the other long side is taken up with burger vans/candy floss sellers etc. It's nearly as bad as their "show ring" which only has a part of one side where spectators can watch . . .

A few years ago they put sponsors tenting by the dyke for the Derby - that was not good and hopefully they have stopped doing that. Come and watch the hacks instead tomorrow - will be on the large grey. A lot of the fun is actually watching the stars in the warm up - much closer and better than the ring itself.

I know what you mean about the course this afternoon in the main ring. Try sitting right to the top of the free stands. It's a bit far but a great view over the whole area.

It's not down to the course builders, but down to the Trade Stand Organisers. Course Builders are given the size/shape of the arena, guidlines on the type/size course needed, and left to design the course. What is outside, they won't know, and don't need to know. Their job remains entirely with designing the course.
