Is anyone watching?

I was watching Marion Hughes and saw her refusal, now I am not adverse to giving a horse a "smack" for a silly refusal if I know it was a horse error rather than a rider error (I VERY rarely "smack" a horse btw!)
It looked like Marion Hughes took her anger out on the horse and smacked the horse 4/5 times very hard and it seemed like her timing was off ....I could be wrong but it just didn't seem any point to smacking him that many times
i know the ground officials are going to say something but IMO I just thought smacking the horses was not called for...
 
ddint see it; but from what you said, Fair dues. Smacking for 'silly' refusuals does seem a tad tight.
If i hit my Show Hack every time he refused a jump, Id be dead

I saw it and was thinking similar thoughts. Horses make mistakes, humans make mistakes should a horse or human be punished for an honest mistake? IMO no.
 
I was watching but just happened to be out the room when that happened but I'd say the general consensus of the crowd was she was wrong to smack it!

I saw it, it was a mean show of temper. No way she should have hit the horse, the refusal was down to her poor riding. Im really pleased the crowd showed their disgust!!
 
I led the booing!! It was totally unreasonable of her to punish the horse like that. Everyone in the grandstand was slating her, quite rightly so.
 
I was there - I only saw 3 smacks, and thought it was unreasonable of the crowd. It stopped and I thought it was quite a dirty stop.I was totally appauled at the crowd's reaction. It was 3 times only. Having done so well up till then,I would have done the same. Her riding to me was very good. Maybe I just had a bad angle, but I thought that the crowd's reaction as more disgusting than the rider.
 
Er must've been bad angle - it was more than 3 smacks. One smack may tell a horse that its done wrong but what does in excess of 3 tell it???????
 
It was 3 defined smacks - OH agrees (i was in the stands on the right - the uncovered ones just by the last double) - it deserved it. Had been jumping well, just stopped stone dead. As I said, I thought the crowd was disgraceful - yes, maybe it deserved one smack, but it was a total mob culture attitude. Its nothing like Popely and Bluebird with the spurs, which I saw, but at least then the audience left it to an official committee, rather than booing an international rider from the last fence.

Yes, sitting in the sun getting heatstroke! How burnt are you then!?! Did enjoy the Ghurkas - really enjoyed their almost 'running' march! Where were you sitting then? was right near the top of the open ones, on the left hand side! ( 4 rows from back). I
 
I recorded the coverage and just watched it.
I did think she took her frustration out on the horse IMO the horse started to back off and switch off a few fences out from the final double and when it stopped which was maybe a slightly dirty stop but it looked like near double three smacks to me.
Nothing wrong with disciplining a horse but I think it was taken slightly harshly.
Having such great coverage on Sky to boost the profile of horse sports, just hope not too many newcomers to the horse world sat and watched it. We don't need bad press!!!!!!
 
It was definatly more than three. I just hope no one coppies this so called top rider. Anyone who thinks a horse should be punished like that needs to think again.
