We went today, rather disappointed at lack of 'buzz' and atmosphere but they have done a good job on loos.... and the officious 'security' people... jeez!, do they not realise that a landrover rear door opens outwards, and we just might need to open it more than a crack???
Seriously, the buzz was not there and trade stands were pretty poor - I bought a headcollar which is amazing for me!! Food hall was rubbish, unless you like cakes!

All in all, will not bother with the Derby this weekend, bottle of wine and nibbles at home are far better than the M25 and a much subdued venue.

And it cost £38 to get 2 of us in......

I saw a comment on a local horse group saying there was a much more subdued atmosphere today. Fri, sat and sun tend to be the busiest days as the locals get freebie tickets I'n and if the weathers good are quite happy to skive the Friday off work.

I think with the Olympics this year Hickstead is almost an afterthought.

Also the Derby needs good weather to really make for a great family day out and we're just not getting that at the moment. You'll always get the connections and die hards there but not necessarily the recreational spectator this year.

Have also heard its not got the atmosphere this year.

I think its more the weather, everyones reluctant to do anything!
supposedly tomorrow is supposed to be nicer weather, but i can only imagine hickstead being beautifully sunny, bright green grass, ice cream and lots of happy smiley people..
if its anything like outside right now, itd be sooo miserable :(
