Hide chews - to feed or not to feed?

Someone told me the other day that dogs should never be fed hide chews of any kind. Apparently they can kill them....

If this is the case why are they sold? I'm confused! Has anyone else heard this? What do you guys think?

I've never heard this and mine eat loads of hide chews, my theory being that if the puppy has something delicious to chew she will be less inclined to eat my house.

Not had problems so far but will watch this thread to see if anyone knows anything different.

I read this yesterday, hide chews can cause choking and also swell in the stomach. I don't know how real the risk is though

Someone told me that their dog died from kidney failure and they think it's because they fed him hide chews ????

but basically they not good.

If you want to leave you dog with something when you go out - try leaving them with a kong

Thanks Widget - I'll confiscate those nasty hide chews then! Fortunately she doesn't eat many - she prefers piggy ears

The other site looks good, where you get the lambs ears from - I'll give those a whirl!

The lambs ears are also good cos they have less fat and are smaller - Loki loves them!

No neva heard it............I feed mine pigs ears and beef/chicken raw hide...........no probs here
