What do other people do to calm their horses when they get into an adrenalin-fuelled flight mode when out on a hack?
You know the scenario- hacking along happily and suddenly your calm hack spots something a couple of fields away thats VERY DANGEROUS (its really only the electricity repair men in yellow jackets popping up and down behind a hedgeor some such thing) instantly the head goes up, eyes pop out on stalks, body rigid and heart seriously pounding.
He wants to turn round and flee, but you're not allowing that so he stands absolutely rigidly staring.
He ignores your legs, and by hitting you know you could provoke a bad reaction, maybe a rear.
How do you deal with it? I usually wait until the adrenalin subsides then try and get him listening to me with a few circles and turns before attempting to ask him forward. But Im interested in what other riders do under those circumstances.
