Getting some wonderful grub, all designed to make them feel very well. I would think about cutting down or even out the conditioning feed and replacing with something as simple as pony nuts to be honest. You can always then add the conditioning mix back in until you get the required amount of fizziness.

Just sounds over grubbed tbh.

only prob with that is that he loses weight at the drop of a hat!i only found the topspec cond flakes to put on his weight, after trying everything else. But i was thinking of cutting out the dengie and the speedi beet. I would love to cut down his feed but am scared he will lose weight!

You don't need to cut down his feed just re-balance it a bit.

In my experience most conditioning feeds are heating. So cut that down and add pony nuts instead.

Better he's a bit skinny and rideable than looking absolutely tip top and not

Well I know some people feed sunflower seeds with no problem, but we can't even give Toffee a handful. They are very high in energy, and may not suit him. I'd be tempted to swap to a splash of oil in his feed if he needs it. I only asked about the garlic because of its blood-thinning qualities, but it sounds as if it is doing him good.

Yes they are a nutritionaly balanced, non heating feed - and the Spillers brand has added calmer.

Well you don't know if you don't try them do you? lol

Alot of TBs/TB crosses get fired up with any 'conditioning' type mix/nuts.

Put my boy on baileys conditioning nuts and it was interesting to say the least!

You could try Allen and Page Calm and Condition if you feel he needs a conditioning feed. It's without barley, which is in conditioning feeds as it's fattening, but can also be heating.

Top Spec also do their own version if you want to stick to the same brand, called Cool and Condition, I believe.

Nuts are better than mixes for whizzy types: more fibre, less starch.

I agree with amymay, spillers horse and pony cubes are brilliant - Over to You went round badminton, burghley and the olympics on them so they must be good!

I use build up cubes for one of my old chaps who doesnt do well and have found soaking them helps to maintain weight a bit better (he'll never be fat). I presume its just easier for them to digest. I tried everything to keep his weight on and eventually found this works best. (His teeth are fine by the way! Have you had your chaps checked?)

I cant comment on the heating element as he is no longer ridden but would def recommend soaking nuts. I was always told they were well balanced but didnt look as nice as mix- Could be wrong!! Certainly my boy does better on them than he ever did on mix.

I doubt it would be the Hi-Fi that is making him fizzy, which one are you using? if it is the Hi-Fi Lite then i can almost guarantee its not. We have found that we can pretty much control how much energy they have by the type of chaff we use. They are not top comp horses and they dont get much mix so that is the main thing we change. eg. Hi-Fi lite doesnt make Rum fizzy but if you put him on Alpha-A he goes mental. However the Hi-Fi Lit isnt good for condition so you could add a drop of oil or something.

If you need good advice, ring up a feed company and they will be happy to help!
