Hi all

I've been looking for a 4x4 for a while and have tried about 320975723427948042470 ones. i can't decide on one that i like. however, i seem to have shortlisted it to:

kia sorrento - seem to get good reviews on here
nissan x trail - cute, but everyone seems to hate them
shogun sport - my fave

now, yesterday i had some bad news and it has meant my 4x4 budget is more than halved. so now i'm starting to look at slightly older models. was initially looking at 3 year old cars...

there is a little local garage that has a perfect little sorrento in it... tidy, cute, go all the spec i want, is within new budget... but... it's done ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES...

am i mental for even thinking about it?

Apologies as my question won't help you but I'm also on a 4x4 hunt.... do you know roughly what mpg the sorrentoes do?

100k? pffffffffft nothing i bought my little black 106 GTi on 101k... and iv had it over 2 years now. now on 121k

as long as it has been looked after mileage is nothing. perhaps research the intervals for cambelt change and make sure this, along with regular servicing, has been done.....

Apart from the fact that after 140K miles I seem to be in need of a new battery, it never let me down:D
It is getting on a bit and has typical ''ageing truck'' ailments, but the engine will go forever, me thinks.

We have a Mazda Bongo 2.5 diesel 4x4 which is the same engine as a Ford Ranger and Mazda B2500. At just under 200,000 miles we had headgaskets and cracked cylinder head done, at cost of £1200. However that is a cracking mileage and one would expect such issues at around the 200k mark. That has been the first major expenditure we have had on a 16 year old vehicle. SO pretty good going I would say.

Well at least at 100k its not likely to have been clocked, check the wear is consistent.

I am very pleased with my sorento, although the auto is a bit thirsty, 280miles is costing me £70 now

OH says as long as it has been looked after and has traceable history, ie reciepts of work, service history etc then you should be fine!

I used to adore my Xtrail too, however the Kia has a much bigger towing capacity than the Xtrail, We had to downrate our ifor 505 to legally pull it with the Xtrail!
We now have a Navara as i have two 14.2s and the xtrail wouldnt be any use for towing two heiffers! ( Been on a weigh bridge with one 14.2 and we weren't far off the limit:()

We also looked at a Shogun SWB but unfortunately my 40mile commute to work would have cost far more in the Shogun than the Xtrail or Navara.

I have a Kia Rio. Owned from new, 56 plate, done 115000 miles. Never sick or sorry, only changed tyres & brake pads. Been serviced every 10000 miles, goes like a dream. 1.6l CRDi (16v turbo). Best car I have ever owned.

Loved my Sorento. Did change it at 100,000 but had no probs at all in 5yrs. Superb towing, drove like a car after old Disco I had before. We down sized as it was a bit thirsty on our hills. Auto too, so used moer than manual. Fully recommend. Did hate the dealers though! Hopefully not a general problem, just local to here?

100k ???? thats not that high and to be honest I would rather have a 100 k well looked after, than a 30k miler that a farmer or builder has owned .. and pulled trailers with... people who do a big annual mileage tend to be good at looking after things as neglect costs £££s and breaking down miles from home is a pain ... if you are going to do a big mileage then maybe look for a lower mileage but if you dont its stupid to waste money on low miles for it to sit most of the time .....
