My mare was lame on her offside hind. I took her for a lameness workup at the vets. They performed nerve block tests and X-rays. Her X-rays were clean! They concluded high soft tissue injury. Told me to rest her for a month in the field on bute for two weeks. Is this a pulled muscle? Tendon or ligament injury??

could be any of the above, its unlikely to be a tendon or ligament if there is no swelling, have a feel of her hock and stifle and check whether the ligamnets around the joints could be inflamed, if so then thats the more likely, if not then muscle more likely. treat it as you would if you'd pulled a muscel etc, gentle walking after the first week is advisable as thats when the scar tissue really starts to lay down properly, it needs to heal with 'normal' fibre alignement so the horse should be able to perform its usual day to day movement. if they don;t use it then the scar tissue lays doen more randonly and the tissue heals in a less than optimal way.
