High temp, inappetence, dull demeanour… just a standard virus?

My 2.5 year old who is usually a cheeky, lively monkey didn’t touch his breakfast on Saturday morning which is very, very unlike him as he is a real foodie.
Turned him out as usual and he just stood around the field making feeble attempts at picking grass.
Took his temp which was reading over 41. Vet called and confirmed running a high temp. Given a full dose of finadyne and did a rectal to check no impaction as he hadn’t been eating and was a little dehydrated but all fine.
About 5 hours later he was stood with a full body shake on and looked so so poorly. Vet came back out and tubed him to get some fluid in and we gave him Paracetamol.
he seemed a little more comfortable after this and picked at a little food over night.
Over the last 24 hours his temp and demeanour have been up and down like a yoyo. We did run bloods which confirmed his neutrophil levels were 0.10 (should be between 2.3-9.5) and the presence of a virus.

my question is could this just be a “common virus”? I’m worried about him being so up and down, one minute he seems to be almost back to normal and the next minute he’s curled up on the floor looking worse for wear again.
Bloods showed nothing else but that low white blood cell count. Fully vaccinated and his closed herd stable mate is absolutely fine in demeanour and temperature. Any experiences or views gratefully received.

I would suspect hes having a run in with a flu virus even when vaccinated they can catch flu and my friend who’s a vet was saying theres a bit of flu about .
Make sure you watch the droppings like a hawk if they go smaller and harder call the vet .I think I would be tempted to get him onto mashes if you can grass cubes make a good mash it would be better to avoid bran at his age if you can , keep wet soft bulky food going through him feed small mashes four times a day if you can .
Unless you are very unlucky his immune system will kick in and fight it off and long term he will be a healthier horse because of it .
