Anyone from this area, where do you take your horses to do fittening hill work?
Obviously it is quite flat around here but my horse has lost loads of condition recently, where would the closest place that is good to ride to go and have some fun getting him fit??

Not in Solihull, but if you can afford the time and petrol costs Offchurch Bury Polo Club chaser course has some good hills to build up stamina, with the bonus of the XC jumps.

Do you have transport? Maybe have a look at the off road hacking thread for some ideas?

Yes we do! Got our lorry last week so we are very keen to get out and about! I know of Bushwood & SRC as good places to go locally hacking. SRC is so flat though.

Hi, that sounds good, how does it work as in do you pay a fee or something to use the grounds? I am looking for places like this as my horse gets very excited hacking off road as he is so used to road work and I eventually would like to do fun rides but fear he'll turn into a complete monster!

Also any suggestions for good gallops that we could use in the area (Our yard is just outside Henley in Arden)? Preferably with a surface as the grounds probably going to be quite hard at the moment. We want to go to gallops as our first outing!!

Thank you, Lizzie x

Offchurch is £25 I think, you have to phone to book in.

Northampton chasers (Park farm) have some awesome hills and £20 I think, lovely place.

Warwick international school of riding have gallops, but not sure about the quality of them. Someone also mention that hill wootton farm livery have a gallop track too.

Clent is a bit of a drive but v hilly. if you don't mind road work shadowbrook lane is quite a steep dip, as is the road that runs parallel past the bank of shops and church. The road down to the 'lakes'/ golf course is long and a bit of a hill.

We used to be up old station road :D those were the usual hacking routes and the only handful of hills that I can think of.
