So we set off for Hilltop today.
My sister, who was also suppose to be competing, wasn't riding as Hugo has gone lame.
Soi got there, warmed him up, managed to have a nice canter up in a seperate area from the warm up so he was happy with that and in the warm up managed to just walk and trot him around to keep him calm and pop a couple of practice fences.
We walked the course on Saturday and I wasn't tooooo worried about it, first 2'9" course, but was really nicee. Nothing too horrid. There was a little trakhener, a ditch and also a corner so I was ready to ride for those.
He was jumping huge over everything! REally getting back on his hocks and not really jumping flat enough as I wasn't kicking him on for the speed. Was going brilliantly, did alot of things we've never done. Came to a double going down the hill slightly which was a basic rail fence, 2 strides then a narrow but with the backwards arrrow sides on it (if that makes any sense at all!!) He jumped huge over the first part, I lost everything, reins, stirupps and so the second jump resulted in a refusal. Brought him round again, jumped huge again and couldn't gather myself for second part. Same thing happened a third time, got eliminated, was allowed to carry on. He FLEW everything else!
All the jumps I was worried about he popped!
Got back up to the end, my sister then decided to tell me that I could have jumped both parts as seperate jumps and if i'd refused at the second part, I could have gone back to that one alone!
What a plonker!
Was still very happy with Wally though.
Also with my sissters horse, he's slightly short and draagging his near hind foot in trot and when you touch the inner side of his stifle it's slightly tender. Cold hosing it seems to help him but was wondering if anyone knew what it may be, what may of caused it or any action we should take?
Thank you!
