What is your experience of this type of injury?
(treament/vet's prognosis/eventual outcome)

Are cobs and/or dressage horses more likely to sustain hind DDFT injuries an other types of horses?

I think it was your post from yesterday lower down, I have replied in there & also NL so won't type it all out again. Yes, Liphook told me that it is fairly common in the cobbier/native types. This is Kizzy's second leg, same injury, so something in her genetic makeup makes her prone to this type of injury. She is a fairly busy competition pony, BSJA, eventing etc etc. I have no experience of Rossdales, am sure they are fab, but couldn't recommend David Lloyd at Liphook highly enough, so don't know if its worth seeking a second opinion? If I think of anything else will PM you xx

HI, having read some of your recent posts I really feel for you at the moment, especially as I'm in very similar situation. My TB mare was diagnosed with annular ligament constriction last May, went for op at Willesley who found tear in DDFT. Unfortunately they weren't able to debride the tear as much as they wanted due to risk to SDFT but thought it should heal ok. After months of box rest & walk exercise she was as lame as before & all the swelling had returned. The tendon sheath was medicated in November and we then decided to turn her away as she was so depressed from being on box rest. She's much happier at the moment but still on danilon with a hot, swollen leg!. Vet is coming again next week to review when i've got to make some decisions that I don't really want to have to face. Sorry this is so long and not more positive, I really hope the outcome is better for Fudge.

My horse split his DDFT 3 years ago and tore his manica flexoria around his fetlock.

He had a tenoscopy and rehab and he is now ridden as before. The vets did not expect my horse to be field sound, but we are back to riding, the only thing we dont do is jump.

My horse sustained this mysteriously in the field.

Tendon injuries can and do heal, the important thing is to follow the vets instructions.

My endurance Arab sustained a 30% tear in his DDFT just above his l/h fetlock in May 08, resulting in 2/10ths lameness for about 4 days. He had 15 weeks' field and box rest (he became very depressed on box rest), then gradually came back into work, and 11 months after the injury we cautiously did a 18k pleasure ride. He successfully completed a variety of rides of a maximum distance of 34kms by the end of the year.

During the rest period I tried cold laser therapy, and then electro-magnetic pulse therapy, neither of which made any difference judging by the scans. The lesion is still present but down to 10%, and the prognosis is that the lesion will always be there.

I am reasonably confident that provided I'm sensible about the type of terrain I ride over (avoiding anything too deep) he still has a medium-distance career ahead of him.

Good luck with your horse - as Highlandponylass says, tendon injuries aren't necessarily the end of the world.
