Hind Extender showjumping boots

Gyms are foreign territory to me too LOL.

But I have an old injury...which weakens an ankle joint so I have to put supports on it....and this definitely changes the way I walk...and can actually give me a sore back (on one side)....and I suppose if people use these boots as a magic cure all, there is the same danger...
I know what you mean about things being a valuable aid with correct use - do they come with any instructions or guidance (I just think about all the inadvertent misuse of other 'gadgets' that I've seen...and it worries me a bit)?

I am quite interested in the biomechanics of this...I don't suppose you've heard of any studies by the manufacturers or even practical trials (I couldn't find anything of value on the website)?
And have you used weighted boots?

i think it was a bit unfair saying freshman advocates the use of these boots to be fashionable? I've no experience with using these boots myself but you do know that freshman showjumps to an extremely high level dont you?! so i hardly think 'fashion' is the motivation for using them in this case.

Have you heard the expression 'Adding fuel to the fire'?
Not one of my favourites

Used weighted about a handfull of times in the last two years & on a couple of different horses that occasionally got a bit careless or cramped behind. Yes, I had favourable results but I dont treat them as a cure all.
On the subject of ankles I fractured mine in 8 places 4 years ago.I have that many pins & plates I set the security equipment off at airports. My physio claims that when it gets sore it is my subconcious that makes me walk differently(protecting myself) Therefore it is this that causes the back pain etc. (in his opinion) I dont believe that horses are that complex though. They are amazing how they just get on with things.

And did you find the weighted boots worked whilst on, just off, or built muscle over time (although I guess you didn't use them that long)?
You sound like you have you own metal weights so should be prancing around permanently

I've been a bit more keen on the combined dislocations and fractures myself....each time my doctor/osteo says 'Try not to do it again'....as if it's some deliberate strategy

I don't know if they are doing it with SJ as much, but all the current video biomechanical analysis of top dressage horses is fascinating...especially in a 'subjective' sport.

i hardly think its adding fuel to the fire - there is another saying which says there is no fuel without fire. all im saying is people have different views and opinions, i freely advocate people having different views and opinions about things - the world would be a very boring place without them! all im saying is dont make jdgements about people before you know the full story, thats all!
