Any experiences please.

I have a horse that is looking suspect for hind gut probs. She is low grade laminitic and is so sensitive to diet. She is now barefoot after lameness issues last year and doing well but has had a sore back (muscle soreness in the glutes, worst on right side) and last year (not in work at the moment) she had a few issues with right lead canter and girthiness. Recently she is being a bit grumpy and despite getting linseed her coat isnt as shiney as it usually is.

She is a very good doer and think she has metabolic issues but is a good weight just now.

Any thoughts apreciated.

Thank you

What makes you think hind gut and not gastric?

My boy is exactly the same as you described your mare. I am currently treating him for ulcers, it's a week in and he is already 50 x more happy and relaxed in himself. The test will be at the weekend when I get back on him for first time in weeks and see what he's like to tack up/ride.

Not ruling out gastric either but she is really only sensitive around the hind gut area now. She was a bit girthy last year but did have a shoulder prob from slipping in the field and there is no reaction to me prodding around the girth now.

Can I ask what you are treating your horse with?

Thank you for that info, thats great to know.

The reason I was asking about the supplements above was to try one and see if they made any difference and if so I would take her to vets and get treatment.
My vet already thinks i am mad with the whole barefoot saga recently..........

Has anyone used either of them

Thank you, thats the one her trimmer recommended and when I googled it I also found info on Succeed which I thought sounded good as well.
Might just give it a go for a couple of weeks cant do any harm and if no further forward get her booked into the vets.

I too have heard good things about Egusin... but posted in CR the other day because I actually read the scientific paper they publish in support of its effectiveness, and when you read it it really didn't seem to back up its effectiveness much beyond just getting their diet management right. A few people who write / interpret science papers for a living checked it over too and agreed.

Of course that doesn't mean the product doesn't work. It just doesn't fill me with faith if they're thinking we'll be blinded by a science paper without reading it, or which actually doesn't show much benefit.

I got a free 3 month trial of succeed via my vet who was convinced my horse had ulcers (seems not). Might be worth contacting them or your vet as it's not cheap stuff...

Thanks for all the replys will look into the others mentioned as well. Went over to see them at lunchtime today and although it is cold we have some sun for the first time in ages and she was back to her real soft self, but still think it is worth investigating.
