Really beginning to loose heart we will ever get to the bottom of whats wrong.
Pony is very hardy native, used to jumping a fair height, hardy hunter, normally never sick or sorry.
firstly slightly unlevel behind but then looked ok and not enjoying his jumping as much as normal - and putting in a few cat leaps which is not normal ( thankfully all jumping on a surface).
He looked OK so instructor did jumping lesson and he also managed to miss the edge of the menage so they have cantered a few strides over gravel / rough stones before continuing jumping!
Well next day lame on one hind, physio found him tight that side behind and tight opposite shoulder although nothing major.
Vet found pulse although not sensitive to hoof testers, to cut a long story short we have had 4 vet visits, soaked, poulticed, had shoe removed & put back on, been x rayed and nerve blocked.
In summary x ray shows shadow near frog, frog has not been pared and dug into 3 times over 16 days - slightly smelly but no real abscess or any pus - . nerve block confirms it is that one hoof.
Still very slight pulse, lammi has been ruled out by x ray and all 4 vets, looks OK in walk but when last ran out 2 days ago unsound at trot.
Will happily pick up all other feet but as it is only 2 days ago since further prodding of frog seems to be happier keeping that one on floor.
In at night, out at day, does have to walk across stones on yard to get to field and back.
anyone else had gas shadow near frog?
hoping for vet call tonight but looks as though i will have to wait until Monday now!
