Hind Lameness

i have a gorgeous 5 year old 15.1hh tri-coloured lightweight irish cob. he is at least county level, if not more. i have only had him 3 months and he has gone lame right hind. he has had nerve bloks at fetlock, hock, stifle, hip and sacroiliac - still lame. he has had pelvic ultrasound - all ok. bone scan revealed minor hot spots on right hock, stifle and sacroiliac so x-rays done. vet diagnosed bone spavin so he had steriod inj into hock joint - 7 days later still lame so vet now says prob is higher. now on 2g bute per day until vet comes out on 15th aug. lunged 3 days ago and he still lame on left rein but sound on right!! had this horse vetted and showed no lameness so what is going on? thought he was 7 when i bought him and since found out hes only 5!! he is so lovely i will spend whatever it takes but am up to 5K in vet bills with no dignoses. would love to hear from anyone who has had similar experience. He is now 15.2hh so could it be growing pains?? Had my

    last horsre 20 years with no lameness so this is all new to me. Can anyone help.....please??
 
You could ask for a referral to Svend Kold at Willersley who is probably the best and most renouned orthopaedic surgeon in Europe.

I live in Scotland, and I use the Clyde Vet Group. They are very good, google them and find they're website. Quite a long travel from Hampshire though?! Although they have they're own in-patients department!

If he has hock spavin in both legs then it;s likely he's bilaterally lame (sp!)

Ty shifts his lameness depending on what day it is!

My advice? Whip back shoes off, one bute a day and just hack for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference.

I've never been for no shoes, but Ty threw both backs by accident and I saw how free he looked on the back. Brought some hoof boots and he is the soundess I've ever felt him....
 
Thanx for that, i will google him and see what he's about. Believe me, i have kicked a few things.......doesn't get me anywhere though!! Cheers for your advice.
 
Thanx for you advice, thing is vet saying it not bone spavin anymore. They think lameness is coming from higher up even though ultrasound revealed nothing and bone scan only show a minor hot spot on sacroiliac. Will take his back shoes off though to see if that helps him move any more freely, that seems like a really good idea. The stupid thing is he gallops and bucks around the field like he hasn't a care in the world!!
