Similar to post re shoulder injury, my girl slipped and fell over and is now lame behind, she fell quite heavily onto her back end, was just stiff to start and reluctant to bring hind leg through, happy to weight bear, hopping in trot and reluctant to move sideways, has had stable rest for 3days with bute, with in hand walking, stiff to start with then seemed to loossen up, still not right, I'm sure it's just a nerve. Anyone had any similar experiances, how long was it before horse was sound? (thanks)

i'm assuming the vet came to see her and perscribed the bute, box rest and walking in hand?
if this is the case then perhaps your mare is in need of some physiotherapy? she may well have damaged muscle or put something out of aligment and needs a few treatments to loosen her up again. your vet should be able to recommend a practice in your area.
hope she is better soon.

Thanks, me too! Yes vet came out. Have got regular chro and Physio, who i will get to come and see her just wondered if anyone had had the same, as vets, had not seen such an injury before.

i see, i expect she will just take a while to come right if she had a crashing fall on her backside!
no experience of that type of injury tho, sorry!
good luck

My horse did this a few years ago-slipped in the field and pulled a muscle in his stifle area. He was on bute and box rest for a couple of weeks, but I did walk him out in hand to stop him from getting stiff. I think it was about 3 weeks before he was back in work...muscular damage does take a while to recover

i hate it when the vets tell me-oh ive not seen that injury before, then sometimes they even take photos, and maybe even other vets from the practice come out to see it too-for free. it just fills me with confidence!!!! hope your mare is better soon

Thanks, Yes makes you wonder what they go to university for!! always the same as soon as you make plans for competing they go on a suicide mission!
