Hi
Right, I'll try to make this short but give you all info at same time...
My boy had physio last week, we had a new saddle last Sept and up to that being fitted he ALWAYS had something wrong when she came out to him. This time his back was really good so I'm well chuffed!
She asked if there has been anything else & I mentioned that his OS hind seems 'wrong' he's not lame on it but he's not entirely happy to take his weight back onto that leg when schooling & canter on his right rein is hit & miss as he struggles to find the right canter lead and will disunite too even when you can get him on the correct one.
Coupled with this my farrier commented after his new saddle that his right hind was looser than it had been previously and so I mentioned to the physio he had been tight for the farrier previously.
Plus if he ever rests a leg he always rests that one.
Anyway, she did find some soreness on his right side but said it wasn't in his saddle area and so it pointed to this hind leg issue.
The farrier was due the following day and I asked him if he noticed any change when shoeing this foot after the physio treatment. He said it was no different, he was still trying to pull him about a bit and on top of that he's been landing heavier with the outside of that hoof than his NS hind.
The physio has said that for his next shoeing I should try him on a bit of bute to see if it make any difference which my vet is happy for me to do, then we'll take it from there depending on my farriers opinion.
I haven't had the vet out as the problem is so very subtle, even by the physio's own admission, and he's showing no signs of lameness. I don't think they would be able to help at this stage so feel the bute option is probably the wisest at this stage but I'm no expert so could be completely wrong?!
Has anyone had any similar issues?
His saddle is due to be checked next week but I very much doubt there is a problem with it as history tells me that if there was any problem with his saddle it would most definately be showing through his back and this hind limb issue isn't exactly a new issue but with him always having something to sort out with his back I, rightly or wrongly, put it down to that.
Any ideas/suggestions/advice would be appreciated
PS. brief past history, this horse had suspected back problems at the age of 4 - he went to Sue Dyson who did a full work up on him, scanned everything there was to be scanned and found nothing. She put it down to his age & previous owner perhaps rushing him a bit in his earlier years. He is a slow maturing 16.2hh ID X WB. He had 9 months off & came back into work without a hitch.
Sorry it's been so long, Aero Bubbles to anyone who got this far!
