My horse has put up a splint on outside of her hind leg. Because she was out in the field and being sensible, vet said to leave her out but cold hose, DMSO etc 2 to 3 times a day. Anyway did all that, splint went right down. Four weeks later it was back with a vengeance as she had been galloping about. I now have her inside in a stable 23 hours a day, out for 1 hour on a tiny little pen as she is very neurotic and needs a little time out, am bandaging, using ice etc and it is starting to go down. Where do I go from here? We are 10 days after the re-apperance of the heat and swelling. I was thinking to carry on like this for another 2 weeks and then another 3 weeks on a restricted tiny paddock. Should I X ray? Could not do X ray before now as vet said needed to be rid of swelling to see the damage.

i would go back to cold therapy, DMSO splintex etc. can you boot that leg up so she doesnt knock it,and leave out? you cant boot over splintex? ask farrier to feaather edge inside of shoes? large sausage boot?
