Have an older mare (early 20's) who had the tendon injury 14th Feb last year (2011) shes come back, very well infact, shes not 100% sound and never will be but able to work, as I thought she would be retired on the spot but my vet said no..
I have seen recently about Professionals Choice boots but didnt want to take over someones thread, and obviously a joint supplement as always..
Is there anything else I can do to keep her well and soundish?
Shes not had any trouble since the injury..
And what would you be willing to do work wise with her?
Just curious as I know everyone will have other opinions :)

How severe was the original injury and how long was she off for??

What treatement was prescribed and what sort of work are you doing with her now??

The best thing I have been told to keep tendons strong is lots of walking on the roads - reaslly works to strengthen those tendons and keep them strong!!

I cant quite remember, not tooo awful, but probably not too great, she was hopping lame after the injury for a week or so, and was scanned twice and x rayed, and she was in a 'cast' for a good 8weeks and was just given bute and i seem to remember metacam too?
but after 10weeks were were doing 10mins of walking and upping it slowly and we were upto about 20mins of trot undersaddle then moved house and tried to continue with the progression.. and keep her in constant work, fairly light tho, so keep her ticking over..
like I just put shes lunged everyday almost and ridden once maybe twice a week, she would be ridden daily but due to her nature it may do more harm than good, she does jump now but only on a surface and she has been to a couple shows since but only very very small, and will only ever be competed very small, but did actually win both times!
Im not sure walking on the roads here will be possible, we have the worst hacking/roads here(3 people have died at the bottom of my field from RT accidents and ive only been here a year!!), i have done it, but not something i like, i can do lots of walking on a hard surface, but roads might not be an option :(
Thank you!
