This is in an ad for a horse for sale, I'm liking him but says he can't jump due to this old injury. I don't want to jump anyway, but am wondering about the long-term prognosis for this type of injury.

Thanks...

My cob mare injured her Annular ligament 4 years ago. She had steroid injections into it and came sound after a years rest whilst she had a foal. She had been sound ever since, but is only really a happy hacker and she doesn't like jumping anyway.
It is always a gamble to buy a horse with a known problem but if the price is right it could be a gamble that pays off and it may never be a problem again.
Can the sellers tell you how bad it was and what kind of treatment it had, sometimes the actually cut the ligament.

my old horse had both of his hindlimb annular ligaments cut 4yrs ago. he was initially sound but then went severely lame again 6mths later. he had 18mths off and is now sound again and has won a lot of veteran showing classes this summer. he doesn't feel 100% on a sand school now but he's great out hacking and showing and pops over the odd log.
