Hind PSD and now bone chips and arthritis in front fetlocks... is there any hope?

My 8 year old was diagnosed with bilateral hind PSD in July. I did the rehab but he still felt totally off. Was re-assessed and had become lamer in front but hinds had improved. Scans revealed bone chips in both front fetlocks and arthritis. Vet wasn’t sure op to remove chips will make any difference so has suggested medicating the joints to see if that helps, and also start trot work if sound to see if PSD behind continues to improve. I feel at a total loss, I brought the horse to compete and worried if he will come back good for any type of work. He wouldn't be a happy hacker either so I am so worried about what to do if the medicating of the fetlocks doesn’t help. Anyone experienced similar?

Not exactly the same, but have had a horse with hind issues that led to a rotation of both front fetlock joints and DJD. He was eventually LOU and became a lawn mower as hind issues couldn't be resolved and was pointless treating the secondary issues.

You say you have done the rehab for PSD.....was this following a neurectomy and fasciotomy?

PSD is quite often secondary to other issues, if you’ve found the primary issue and it responds to treatment the future may not be that bleak. I’d also be having a good look at foot balance. The main thing I’ve learned is ligaments take a loooong time to heal! There is a wealth of knowledge on the PSD Discussion group on FaceBook - well worth joining 👍🏻 Also on a side note - as I had to just crack on with walking straight line rehab for ages, my timid/spooky/not good to hack horse has turned into laid back dependable boy that I’m happy to take almost anywhere - every cloud 😁
