My horse has been barefoot behind for around 1.5 years. She hasn’t been in much work over that time due to one thing or another. I am now gradually building her work back up and am thinking I might have to put hind shoes back on. She has a tendency to wear the left side of her right hind and also the toe. It’s worn quite considerably since increasing her work recently. She tends to pivot the leg to compensate for some previous issues (all been investigated and treated). she is 19 and now retired to hacking only, which she thoroughly enjoys.
I am worried however about how she is wearing the right hind and the pressure it might be putting on the outside of that leg. So thinking of putting hind shoes back on to help support. However I wonder if hoof boots might help to protect the hoof at all? I know they won’t resolve the issue of her mechanics but She’s not the best to shoe so it would be ideal if we didn’t have to put them back on.

Mine was barefoot eventing was fine no issues but unfortunately he went actute lame this year with severe brusing not even jumping so shoes back on all round xx

Boots will work but you will need to be sure you get a really good fit because otherwise his action may cause the boots to twist.
Have you had the vet to see why she is wearing the foot like this, it may be spavin or another arthritic change.

Hi, yes we’ve had her extensively investigated and it’s her way of compensating for an issue unfortunately and has learnt to do this to make herself more comfortable we believe.
