Hind suspensory damage as a result of....?

I know that this is far from the only thread on hind suspensory problems, but I wonder if anyone has had an experience similar to mine and could shed any light for me?

My horse has been diagnosed with minor 'wear and tear' - as described by the vet - to his hind suspensory (following scan, nerve blocks and xray - hocks clear). He is booked in for a bone scan next week as the vet doesn't feel that this damage is enough to give him the problems he has been having - completely sound in walk and trot, very little reaction to a flexion test - some stiffness but not a positive test - but he has problems in canter, not really pushing off from the hindleg or bringing it through, and the canter effectively feels 'lumpy', for want of a better word.

I don't know what the bonescan will reveal - clearly! - but wondered if anyone had similar experience and therefore any idea of what the suspensory problem could be due to? Sacroiliac problems keep coming to mind but apart from that...?

Thanks!!!

Thanks for your reply - what sort of foot problems?

(Nerveblock to the foot had no effect on the canter but I don't suppose that necessarily means much!)

Just wondering what sort of prognosis I could be looking at!

Friend's horse wasn't lame, just felt like she was bunny hopping in to canter and bucking when being asked to leg yield.

Now back in work after op and doing very well :)

Thanks, sounds similar in terms of symptoms! - good to hear positive outcomes but from what the vet has said he wouldn't be a candidate for the op and certainly not until they find out what else might be going on.
