Hi all, please help.

My horse injuryed both FRONT suspensories, treated with box rest and shockwave therapy, in a fall last year and has only been back in work since February. I took it very slowly and got him back eventing in July. He has been going so well. Placed everytime out and I have been so careful with him, only running on good ground. At Milton Keynes on Sunday I pulled him up XC as he didnt feel right. He was short right hind on the lunge on Monday so I took him to the vets yesterday and he has injured his HIND suspensory. The vets assure me this is just really bad luck but I am really gutted for my poor pony who is such a star and is back to full fitness and going so well.

They want to see him back in 10 days to scan again and then we need to decide what we will do. They are talking about surgery and I am interested to know what experiences anyone has had with this. Any stories good or bad will help me to weigh up the decision.

Many Thanks

my mare had surgery on both hind suspensories .1 month box rest then small paddock rest with small walk twice daily in hand then walk ridden.her recovery was excellent but i kept her as a hack rather than resuming competition.with hind sight i may not have had surgery as too anxious to jump and risk reinjury.lots of horses i gather do well and return to competing.sadly my mare has done her tendon foreleg.sounds like bad luck for you but there are lots of posts on here re similar

If you have a spa near you then I would recommend you get your horse over there asap!

The first week the injury continues to break down so if you could get your horse in the spa then you can help halt this process.

Good Luck.
