I am buying a 2nd hand shed (garden shed) for keeping all my horsey stuff in as at the moment it is in my horse box and very unorganised. The shed is about 3m x 3m and quite tall.

I am looking for any good ideas for organising things in the shed. When I was at a livery yard we just had big boxes to put things in and rails to through your rugs on. I have loads of rugs for the 4 horses. So needs to save on space somehow. :D

TIA!

I got some great hooks in homebase that are huge and hang my rugs really well. They were cheap as they aren't designed as equestrian

get some shelves for tack boxes
hat hooks
a whip holder
tall umbrella holder or laundry basket are great for whips
ceiling shelving could be done where you could put up there things you don't use much
stackable shelves for boots etc.
one of these is great for small things like scissors clips etc I love this one so many shelves

Whip holder - great idea. I have loads but always lose them, get a new one and find the old one and repeat.

There are wooden beems that go across the that we could probably put some wood down and put rugs up there that we do not need at the moment and keep the ones we are using more handy.

That is quite good, that would also keep plaiting stuff together as well.

If you know of anyone that is getting rid of any metal office filing draws, snap them up. I keep our lunging stuff, saddlecloths and rugs in ours. They're rat proof and help keep everything in order.

Good shout. I have some outside my office, wonder if they would noctice it was gone. :)

Upside-down post rammer makes an excellent whip holder.

One of those free standing clothes rails with wheels that are used for market stalls does excellent service as a rug rack.

If space is limited, but the building is tall, bridles can be hung on hooks right up in the rafters and lifted up/down with a boat hook.

Mine is quite a small space also have hay and straw in there too. I tend to stack stuff up in there. i have one wall with a thing of shelves on it for all my random crap and a cupboard for things i don't want dusty or chewed! Lots of hooks everywhere, including one suspended from ceiling. i also sweep it out everyday which helps i know someone who has about a foot of straw and hay on the floor of theirs that would drive me nuts.

I would lock items away in something else inside a shed too, a number of people at the farm got sheds a few years ago for tack, and one night all of the sheds were broken into (very easy with a b and q shed) and cleaned out, even of wheelbarrows and numnahs etc :(

I'd put the whip holder on the back of the door to save extra space! I also used to have a small set of plastic drawers which were good for grooming things

I managed to get some attractive but functional kitchen units when my mum had her kitchen done! They were brilliant. I used the floor units and drawers as they were and put smaller wall units bolted on top with the doors removed. Gave me loads of space and most people just chuck old units out.

The farm we live on is way up a hill and when you go up the road you cant go any further, so very hard to steal from. The shed will be right outside my living room window also.
