Does anyone know when the BVA panel sit each month to assess these?

I want to get my St Bernard Bitch done now she is 2 and a half years and stopped growing.

My 2 local vets have quoted me £245.67 and £93.68, what a difference!

Good luck! We have to submit ours to Germany, that costs over £300

They come back quite quickly from the BVA, you shouldn't have to wait more than 2-3 weeks I think.

Ouch. We paid just £80 at a clinic in Southampton.

Be warned though. The skill of the person taking the xray can be reflected in the overall results ie a badly posed dog can result in an unfavourable xray.

My boy scored 3/3 which given the breed average is 7 I was happy with.

Agree with Lizzie, I would pay a wee bit more for a vet who is experienced with doing BVA x-rays, they need to be dead level and positioned in a particular way to be properly read.

Just checked our last bill, for a hip x-ray not being submitted cost just over £63. Four additional images was £50. So a shade over £100 altogether.

The £300 is for hips and elbows and all the paperwork from the SV. Still bloody dear!!!

what age do you think is best to get some hip scores done on a labrador??
I'm going to take her to a vet who is experienced in doing them. but wanted to check before booking her in
thank you

No idea for labs, when do they mature?....I like to see GSDs be done at 12-18 months.

Obvs the OP's breed is a late-maturing breed, I think the bigger breeds always are, so sensible to leave it a bit later.
Mine had prelim hip and elbow x-rays at 6mo before they were sold to us - while they looked good it would have been silly to submit them so early - and B's were done again last month and they are super.

With large dogs I would always restrict mad hooning and especially over-jumping before 12 months as it can cause a lot of wear and tear on the joints.

would try and get in contact with the local breed club or a reputable breeder. They will be more knowledgeable on the subject and the appropriate health scores, best ages etc for the breed.

Hipscores etc are only are small part of breeding. The breed clubs would also be able to give you good advice on breed conformation and the merits from breeding from your girl.

Good luck.

I am sure that is a quick reply Lizzi, but just for the record, neither of mine will be procreating

especially Boydog, he does not have the equipment

But agree, a breed club will best advice on best age for a particular breed, and I would commend anyone who health tests/scores their dogs before breeding, if indeed one feels the need to breed at all
