I am currently in the possession of one 17.2 Shire cross hippity hoppity horse. Joking aside, I think I have too much time on my own and I am getting concerned. I was at my parents' on Saturday (typical) and my friend had to call the vet as offside rear was sore. The vet couldn't find anything and gave her lots of Danilon sachets and an injection. She was sound as a pound on Tuesday night so gave the Danilon a miss. This morning, limpy lou. Gave her another Danilon and this evening, still limping but came to me and is not so bad once she gets going, but she is not good going backwards. I think I'm posting this for reassurance as much as advice, I will be honest. What could this be? She has got a cut on her other leg - I wonder if she's fallen hard when razzing in the field or something and cut herself getting up. Could it be her back? It's crossed my mind to get a "back person" in once she's better but I'm sceptical. What do you all think? Sorry for boring you all but thank you for listening! xx

Please dont get back person.
Your first port of call should be a full lameness work up by vet. This should include trot up, lunge on hard and soft, possibly flexions, possibly nerve blocks and x-rays, possibly scans- depending on what vet thinks!

if you can find an injury its probably that rather than back. your vet should be able to recommend a chiro if they think you need one but stick with the vet first.

I would get the vet to have another look, also get the farrier out to check for abscess etc. (I find they tend to be better at finding them than the vet)

Thank you everyone. She's back on the drugs and seems better. The drugs will last us until Monday so I think the vet may be required again at that stage.......overtime for me at the weekend then to pay for all this!!
