My vet was telling me this morning that this new supplement is reckoned to be "the best thing since sliced bread" in the countries it has so far been used in. It has now come into the UK. He says he is always suspicious of such claims until proven to him personally (as am I!) Just wondered if anyone on here had used it and might be kind enough to give an opinion, good or bad. Many thanks in advance!

Haven't used it but have heard of it, as my farrier was telling me about it too. Like you, I'm not convinced, "the proof of the pudding...and all that".

I'm also a bit concerned that a product claiming it can stop/prevent/cure laminitis, will be used as a fail safe for some, who can't/won't or unable to manage this disease!!!

Thanks for your reply. My pony is very laminitis-prone and the vet came out to him this morning, and confirmed he has a mild bout of it again, following getting his grazing muzzle off and pigging out on clover for one day! I'm always interested in anything which might help him, and thought this might be a new herbal supplement, but it apparently contains a peptide which absorbs excess sugars. Will probably stick to Stand Free. (together with grazing muzzle, overnight stabling with soaked hay, Happy Hoof and Baileys Lo-Cal!) I told him if he gets his muzzle off again, he's going on eBay. My friend said, "You can't put Livestock on eBay" but I said they do have a Garden Ornaments section. I LOVE HIM REALLY!

LOL!!!!

I give mine brewers yeast. It helps balance the gut, as laminitis has been linked to horses who are unable to process their intake properly. Also, I give them some epsom salts, for magnesium levels.

As normal, they are on a small paddock and restricted grazing.

It's a pain, but, they seem to be doing alright, and touchwood, no laminitis!!!

Good luck...yes, we do love them!! but, I'll go halves on the garden ornament advert!!!!

Thanks ever so much for your reply. If you don't mind me asking, how much brewers yeast and epsom salts do you feed your ponies? Mine is an Exmoor cross, chunky 13.3hh and weighs about 350kgs. at the moment. Rather a heavy ornament for a garden, but therefore not easy for a thief to tuck under his arm and run off with! I think we could have a niche market here!

Ok, well my mare has been on Hippo-Ex for seven days now.Her history is that , never having had laminitis before she came a cropper five weeks ago, had to be trailered to her stable and has been on box rest ever since.X -Rays done and heart bars fitted, limited soaked hay and happy hoof............
Five weeks on and she was still more or less the same - crippled.
For the past week she has been allowed very limited turnout to a menage and always walked out very badly.
Yesterday .......... she "marched" out (not quite but big improvement) and more or less the same today.
Don't get me wrong, its not a cure by any means and she is still very badly lame however her gait has improved considerably. It might be drug I don't know? At £91 for thee months supply its not cheap but I was running out of options.
Vet is revewing tomorrow.
Will keep you updated !!!
