Hi there my mare throws her head and constantly fights to get tongue over bit. She has had teeth saddle and back checked all ok but she does have a smallmouth. Someone recommended a hippus bit but I don't know where to go for one or which to get can anyone help? Ty!!

I had the tongue problem with my newly backed mare. after numerous shapes and sizes of bits which have cost me a fortune, I found she preferred a plain mullen mouth snaffle best, set slightly too high to discourage the tongue going over and a loose flash (had no intentions of using a flash at all) to help to stabilise her lower jaw. Now that she is working properly we are moving towards a double jointed bit to encourage more 'feel' and it's working! I did thin of using a Bomber 'happy tongue' bit but it wasn't dressage legal, not that it matters now.

Been where you are. Cotswolds sports sell a cheap sweet iron hinged bit on the same lines as hippus, which really suits my mare, also try a forward pointing port myler as that's the other magic solution for her. I have tried everything else in the world and she hated it lol
